>2.5quarts out on change, how bad am I screwed.

Hey all...

I have a 05 AT gcoupe and got my oil changed today after a extended period (9000 - 10000 miles on full synthetic mobil 1) and less than 2 and a 1/2 quarts of oil came out.... I was really careless and busy this last winter/fall so I'm wondering how much damage to my engine has been done by my carelessness.

and is this kind of oil consumption normal?

This is why I ALWAYS change mine every 4k miles even though the sythetics say you "can" run them well beyond that. +1 to what HomieG35 said, if you insist on running 10k between changes then check it often and add as necessary.

As far as consuming 2 quarts in 10k miles of fully synthetic oil, I honestly wouldn't worry. A quart every 5k isn't bad, really.

It is a concern but I don't think it warrants you to take drastic actions just yet. Check at 1K, 3K then at 5K again. If the consumption is high, perhaps you need to get it looked at but for a 10K run...eh, could be within normal limits of consumption based on how you drove. I've always put in 5.5 quarts at the initial fill and and I check every 5K. I generally have to add about 1/4 to 1/2 quart every 5K. I usually go 8K oil run on german castrol but I've pushed it to 12K with 1 quart of make up oil.

How can you be sure that only 2.5 quarts drained out? Did you measure the old oil? Assuming you did- I am surprised that you did not get a engine oil light while heavy cornering or braking.

Hard to say if your engine was damaged... any answer you get here would be 100% speculation.

I would say that you need to change and check your oil more often. I do agree that checking it is not easy, but drain you oil and clean the dip stick. Then mark on the dipstick a mental note of the level on the stick that will be your full point. Then base all you measurements on that.

Wow.. even if you go that long between changes you need to make sure and check the level! You may be ok but your chances of premature wear are much higher. How was your driving style over that time?
