Early 2003 ECU
Since the early 2003 sedans have a few differences, one of them is the ECU. They used the older style Nissan ECU compared to what every other G35 has. Does anybody know if ECU's are interchangeable between vehicles?
Could I take one from a later 2003 or 2004 model and install it without problems?

early 03 ecu ftl - trust me I had one hahaha
I hated it, to mess with the 03 ecu you have to pull the whole ecu out, where the newer ones you could just go direclty into the obdII and mess with it from there. To answer your question I don't know, but I believe you could, because when I had a defected ECU, we test-put other ecu's into my car and it started up, didn't run just right just yet but it worked
Of course I ordered a new one cause the other ecu's that were in stock didnt work just right, so I dont know

I have the early one also. Why would you want to replace it? Since the connectors are different, you would have to change them also (or the wiring harness). Sounds like an awful lot of trouble - for what?

Just was wondering. Wasn't sure if the connectors were the same. I know that the tunability of the newer ECU's is MUCH easier. My style of ECU has a different communication method according to all the tuners out there.
Yes, but all those tuners are idiots IMO because Technosquare cracked the 03 ECU in a little over a year. It is very possible to flash these ECUs, it's the tuners that see no market for it.

According to UpRev, uploading to the ecu for the early ecus doesn't always take. If something goes wrong, the ecu cannot be reset via the flash software. It has to be done at UpRev.
I'm working on this though. It's not clear if the flash can be done though their traditional Osris software (cable/disc) or if it has to be done by an authorized dealer.
I have the Osris disc/software. I'm supposed to use it to get the ecu version(though the Cipher OBDII stuff) and go from there with UpRev. Just no time yet.

when you find out, let me know
if you went to a tuner shop that uses Osiris would they be able to tune your ECU then?
I was told, when I called UpRev, that Osiris won't work with the early 2003s at all.

version one (G) has a different connector and UpRev hasn’t seemed to feel there is a market for it - so they haven’t made a compatible cable.... there was a version one car out here over a year ago trying to work with it... nothing came of it. Early 03s are pretty much limited to TS.
Also, if it hasn't been noted, I believe all these ECU's are VIN locked meaning that you would have to have them coded onto your car at the dealer if you were to do a swap. I don't think you could just throw another ecu in and burn rubber.

I realize they are VIN locked. What I was really hoping for was similar wire harnesses for a direct swap. Then I'd have the dealer do a VIN switch to the new one.
Sounds like its not gonna work.
Technosquare ECU upgrade....does that change the shift points in the transmission?
Cobb AP tuner will most likely never come out. They have 1 programmer working on like 6-7 projects before they get to the Early 2003/2004s.
