Sneak peak of hood struts for the G35....soon !
More info later. The ones I tried are not strong enough to hold the hood up yet. We are going to try the next step up ones. A guy at the 350z club designed a kit for for the 350z.. This is from that kit. They work, requires hardly any cutting on the G35 though which is a good thing!

When are you planning on publishing the data you have recorded proving that the hood is able to support itself like that? I would imagine that someone HAD to do strain and stress tests on the aluminum hood. I would hate to purchase a $70 mod that creases my hood. I know that Infiniti overlooked a bunch of features, but I think this one is related more towards the structural well being of the vehicle, that is of course unless you can prove me wrong.

The hood will not crease. Remember the car has to meet safety crash test ratings. So if it creases easy, it will bend easy and not do well on the ratings.
Also, the Murano has struts, it has a Alum hood. There is no reason they didn't install them.

No, the hood is suppose to crease easily in a crash so instead of being shoved through your head, it bends.
Does the murano have the same exact hood, same length, same weight distribution, etc?
If theres no reason why they didn't install them, then why didn't they install them? I'm know there are other possible reasons that there not on there other then just structural, like cost, retooling at the plant, repairability, but I wouldn't want to take the chance until I get a better definitive answer then they just forgot.

Of course, but remember, metal also bends in a crash test. Alum hood should in no way be weaker than the metal one.

Re: Sneak peak of hood struts for the G35....soon
As an Architect and structural engineer, Im going to jump in here and say its okay to add hinges and pistons. That little wire that holds up our hood now, does little for supporting the hood. It would buckle and crease in the middle anyway if it could hold its own weight. Further more, adding this might add more support than the little rod itself.

Re: Sneak peak of hood struts for the G35....soon
Wrah,
I still disagree....
The hood prop supports the end of the hood opposite of the hinges. This gives two opposite ends of support. The struts provide support at the same place as the hinges.
Go grab a 4ft by 4t piece of cardboard and try to lift the entire thing in the air it using only the two back corners and hold it up for 10 mintues. Then, place one end on the ground and hold the other end up with your hand. Which one is easier? This is all physics here guys...
To be honest, it might work, it might not, I just love this debate because both sides, imo, have a very strong case.

Wrah,
Also, what kind of research/evidence do you posess proving that buildings are different then cars? Before you go posting your thoughts on the boards you should be able to back them up with hard proof!
On a serious note, if anyone is planning on selling this mod in kit form I would strongly suggust registering a company as an LLC to prevent any personal liability for 1. Messed up installs 2. Any hoods that may fail 3. Cats killed when the struts give way and the comes crashing down!
well, there was some seriousness there....

Re: Sneak peak of hood struts for the G35....soon
Does this fall into the category of "unauthorized soliciting" and violate the rules of the website? Since you are "advertising" a product that you sell I think you should at least cut a check to the website... no? Same story on FA where the thread was locked by the moderators and then you started a new thread... and then it was locked too...

Re: Sneak peak of hood struts for the G35....soon
Where am I advertising a product?! I don't own the company! I am helping a guy who designed one himself who also does not own his own company. He is being nice to help me get one made for the G35. Do not assume. I don't sell jack. My car is the test dummy. I talked to other moderators it wasn't suppose to be locked since it did not violate the rules. That moderator needs to go back and read them again. That is why its reposted again per one of the higher up mods told me I can. New thread isn't locked btw. So you might want to check your info again before flaming me for no reason.
If you don't want mods made for the G35, so be it. This is the type of response that makes me not care for helping getting stuff made for the G35.
