Idling problem- Please help!

Gents,

Just took my car out of storage. It's an 2003 6MT G35 with stillin CAI and dual exhaust. I've had a weird idling problem with it since i took it out. I thought it was 'bad' fuel (which sat in the tank for 5+ months while in storage) but i've have new gas in the tank now.

Details of Problem:
  • When I start my car from cold, it idles fine at 1100-1200 RPM
  • When it's warm, it idles fine at 650 RPM (spec)
  • When i'm driving and coming to a stop in neutral, it dips below 500 and idles rough (sometimes)
  • I rev'd it in the garage and noticed when the fan kicks on, it idles rough. Especially when i rev it and let the RPMS fall off (it almost stalls)
  • TWICE so far, on the road when i'm coming to a stop, the car has stalled. I did not know if the fan was on both those times. But it does not idle rough everytime though when coming to a stop.

Any thoughts?
First thing i'm trying is resetting the ECU....see if it's an air to fuel mix ratio problem as I just cleaned the K&N filter.

Is it possible the fan is draining too much power? Or the battery is weak? Or the alternator is not generating enough power it idle? (i.e. when the fan kicks in, a noticeable drop in RPM ~500-550)

sounds like it may be a battery prob......my car reacted the same way after replacing the battery.....then I tightened up the terminals and it was fine.

yea sounds like a power issue... ur terminal could be loose or your battery could be in need of replacing...

so re-setting the ECU did not work.

I will get the battery tested next. But is it possible it could be the alternator? I'm near sure it's either the battery (i hope) or the alternator.

I ask this becuase i did some playing around turing on: the headlights, A/C blower, and opening/closing the windows. I did notice a power dip each time i turned something on...ESPECIALLY when i operated the windows. Did not notice it that much when i turned on the A/C or headlights. Interesting....

Alright I am 90% sure of what u are experiencing is a bad THROTTLE CHAMBER.
The computer is trying to raise the idle but the throttle chamber is not responding properly. Replace the throttle chamber and have the dealership adjust the idle using NISSAN Consult. That should make it idle perfectly. Good luck

BTW BAttery and alternator will never give u an intermitten idle issue

So finally got around to taking it to the dealership(nissan) and they said they couldn't find anything...they just recommended waiting until it got worse or a check engine light....not much help.

I gave the "Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning, Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning and Idle Air Volume Learning" reset procedures...and low and behold that seems to have solved the problem!! I didn't realize you had to do those if you ever mess with the MAF or air filter, which i did when i took the car out of storage.

Pretty simple procedure, but timing is EVERYTHING. I thought I had it on the first try but did nothing for the idle. I tried it 4-5 more times and got it to work perfectly on the last reset.....took it for a hard drive and NO idling problems whatsoever....thank GOD!DOMO

If anyone is looking for those reset procedures, they are on the forums on several blogs....look around.

Thanks to all for their suggestions.
