Well i guess slight rattling in idle is NORMAL with VQ35DE engines?

So i took my car to the dealership for " slight rattling of the engine when idling " and it came out as " perfectly fine ".
I've also noticed the same type of rattling on the loaner G35 with only 15k mileage they borrowed to me, as well as the two 08 Maximas (one with 26k mileage, the other has 16k) I test drove two days ago.
however....my friend has a G35 coupe with 50k mileage that doesn't rattle at all...
i guess the rattling is normal then ?

Is it really a rattle, or more of a ticking noise? My engine ticks all the time...annoying when I walk up to my car when it's running & I hear it...but I don't hear it when I'm in my car.
To be honest, i've heard it quite often too. I think with mine it's the a/c, but i have noticed it at idle.
My mom wanted a G35, so we looked at 3 '06's. I remember distinctly thinking "damn, do all g's rattle like this?" when i heard it idling as they pulled it up.

If it's a metallic sounding noise I'm pretty sure it's the engine belts. If you haven't had those replaced in a long time I'd give it a shot - this would also explain why other models with the same engine make this noise.

lucky, no rattle or ticking sound and no steering wheel or dash vibration when on D, and fully stopped at a light---thankfully. I had a 90 Galant 4 cylinder new, and when it was only 4yrs old or maybe 3 the damned car on D at a light vibrated (dash/wheel) so much that any girl within a mile orgasmed due to the vibrations.
I will check tomorrow again just to be sure--had the belts replace a few wks back too.

Not sure if this is your issue, but there is a Service Bulletin for this...

I don't have a way to convert pdf to image so I can't directly post the TSB here... But they basically say it could be the fuel feed hose and damper that'll need to be replaced.

INFINITI; TICKING NOISE FROM ENGINE AREA
There is a ticking, clicking, thumping, or knocking noise heard in the passenger compartment at idle.

hah, so i'm not crazy after all. i took my car in to 3 different dealerships for the following:
1) rattling at idle
2) oil consumption
3) noisy lifters/rocker arms
all 3 dealerships said that nothing is wrong with my car. they said the rattling is cause by the triple flex flywheel and clutch. oil consumption is considered "normal" consumption. tapping/ticking noise in the driver side engine bay, they "can't" hear it. it's even audible to people who has no idea about engines..

lifter noise
So it is normal for the lifters to be clacking like crazy? I just bought my car last week and didn't notice it.. i also didn't notice it on the 2 automatics i test drove.. get it home it's clicking pretty loud.
