Pinging reduced with higher octane (revup owners only)

Switched from 91 BP/Amoco to 92 Shell and was shocked to have almost all my low rev high ambient temp pinging eliminated. I could go 93 octane but my only choice in South Dakota for that is Flying J and it's a constant mad house there. Has anyone else experienced similar results by increasing octane? Brand and additives might be a contributing factor, but I'm still suprised that I noticed a difference with just a 1 octane increase.
