Funky Smell - help!

Im pretty sure I got some water in my floorboards during a storm and a window or door was cracked.

I dried it up and pulled out the mats, let it sit in the garage for a few days with the windows down.

welllllll Its got a funky smell to it now...any ideas what the hell to try next? I would guess its mildew or something.

Re: Funky Smell - help!

Try some Febreze. If that does not work, then you may need to get the carpet shampooed

Re: Funky Smell - help!

If it's mold, the Febreeze will only be a very temporary fix. In that case, do like was suggested above and get the carpets cleaned. But you should really contact a carpet cleaning place and try to get some of the chemical that they use to stop the mold. It's the same stuff they use on your home carpets, if you get flooded, to try to prevent the outbreak of mold. They also have a deodorizer that works in conjunction with the other chemical and it does a good job of removing the mildew smell.

i have a similar problem, i installed my aftermarket headunit without my double din kit for a while, so i had the a/c vents running (no way to shut em off w/o the double din kit), and it produced some moisture in the vents, now my car has that smell, i tried spraying it down with cologne, leave bakin soda overnight, the smell just wont go away, im not sure where the smell is coming from, please help me get rid of it...

Have you run your AC on fan speed 1 a lot? I found when I did this it allowed mildew to grow and I started to get a funny smell (it grows in the water that forms from the condensation.) I started to put the AC on a higher fanspeed and the smell went away after a few days.

I experienced the same exact problem...

Cabin stunk ~ I was traveling about avg speed (85mph) on the 5 fwy... Turned to my right with a grimace... my girlfriend looked at me like I was crazy! I wasn’t racing anyone - we were just f_l_o_a_t_i_n_g at 85...

I punched it and rolled down the windows so she wouldn't smell the fart.

Moral of the story: Scare the **** out of her with the acceleration to confuse her senses!
