Got beat bad by a stock 350Z!, Any ideas why?

Hey guys,

I have 03 G35 and recently raced my buddy with his 03-350Z. He walked me pretty bad on the high way and from a stop. Both cars are stock. My car only has about 75K on it. Any ideas whats wrong with my car? O yea I also raced my buddy with his new Genesis coupe 3.8 and that was just bad.....he blew my doors off! I feel as if my car has a loss of power.

My car has

new warranty motor
new Plugs
new Air filter
oil always changed on time
no check engine light
20 rims ....not that heavy

Any idea guys?

You guys have the same engine but the Z is lighter, with a lighter driveshaft....think it's probably as simple as that. Also would depend on tranny (AT vs. MT) and driver (i.e. he may just shift better than you). Not to mention simple things such as tire pressure and wear, which could make a difference. Your car's a lot nicer, but stock it's not beating any Z's.

Both cars were 6spd....and yes I can drive you A*s. My G35 is not the highest horse power car I have raced. True the drive shaft and tire pressure does play a roll but he pulled away as if his car had 75hp more then mine. It was a rolling start at the same speed in the same gear.

You haven't specificed coupe or sedan. An 03 Z weighs in around 3200lbs, an 03 sedan at 3400lbs, and the coupe at 3450lbs. Right there you're looking at a 200 to 250lb difference. That's a .25-.3 second difference in the 1/4 mile. Then you factor in those boat anchor 20s. Even if they're "light", the tires are heavy, the rims are still heavier than the OEM 17s, and far more mass is further from the hub. The 20s are probably slowing your car down .4 of a second. So right there, you're car is probably around .7 second slower in the 1/4 mile or about 5 to 6 cars or 80' to 95'.

What wheels does he have? If he has OEM wheels the reason he walked you that bad was because of your 20" wheels...

Are you like this guy? Car doesn't mean skill.

I'm not gonna as far as saying you can't drive, but you just suck at driving compared to your buddy if you're comparing to him having 75hp more.

20s and the tires are going to be heavy. Even a forged 3 pc 20" wheel would only wish to approach the weight of a stock 17. Then factor in the tire weight.

If you went cheap on either the wheel or tire, I'll guessimate that you just added up to 15-20lbs per wheel. Are your diameters much larger than before? Add even worse final drive gearing to the mix too.

shorter lighter driveshaft... lighter car. you have heavier rims and if he beat you THAT bad then he's a way better driver.

So I pulled all the plugs last night to further inspect them..Plug 2 for some reason did not look like it was firing completely. The plug almost looked fouled..... I went a head and replaced the coil with a new one. Car runs & pulls much harder now. We're going to do another highway pull later today. I am surprised the car did not throw a check engine light.

No CEL? Chances are it wasn't really a problem. Misfires, failing coilpacks, rich conditions on either is easily detected by the ECU. Want to be faster? Get rid of those boat anchor 20s and/or add more power. It's your only hope. You're not going to beat that Z. Additionally, man up and keep the racing on the strip, not the street. Street racing is ABSOLUTELY pointless. Without knowing reaction time and 60 foot, you don't know exactly which car is truely faster.

things that slowed you down:
20s - hands down, bigger diameter.weight.etc..
car is heavier

and all of the things mentioned before...

da Z does beat us Gs hands down, even stock...just cus of the way the car is made...
how "bad" well other factors add up to that...

+1 u need more power, thats it..but even the bolt on stuff dont really give u that much, i think i've realized the only way to really WHOMP some *** is Turbo or SC.

Dont feel bad..G's are slow stock.doesnt feel like it, but compared to other cars...its not that fast
