You know, an easy way to tell what is steel and what is aluminum is by sticking a magnet onto the sheet metal. The result will quickly confirm the hood is indeed aluminum, so are the wheels. (big surprise eh)
As far as gas struts go.... if it saves weight and cost, I say do without it.
