On my350Z, member reported crack in his two day old Kinetix plenum. This is their latest version. All previous versions have had cracking problems as well. History repeating itself?

it did not crack. It's just molding imperfection.

 

How can you tell the difference? My v3 looked cracked so I got the v4. However, my installer said he thought the v3 was not cracked and still in fine shape. Maybe it was just a molding imperfection as well?

 

With the engine running, spray a littler water on it and see it gets suck in.

DO NOT USE WATER!!! Use something like carb cleaner. If the revs go up you have a crack.

 

Update: it's looking like the guy may have been wrong. It apparently is a surface "imperfection" that is on all the V4s. He did apply some liquid to the area to test for the leak and thought it was sucked in. However, Kinetix claims they Armor All their plenums before shipment and most likely what he saw was just the natural runoff or evaporation. Others with the V4 have confirmed this same imperfection and have looked underneath the plenum and no crack. Looks like it may have been a false alarm but I'll keep following the thread.

My V4 had a slight imperfection as well that I thought was a crack...upon closer inspection it was not. If they Armor All the V4 before shipment I think they forgot to do mine....it was very dull, but who knows.

 

...an imperfection is still just that: imperfect. Do they know definitively that this won't cause a problem, or is it proven 100% aesthetic?

Unknown at this point. Not enough history on the V4. The other versions certainly don't have a stellar track record. Personally I'd rather not do real world R&D for Kinetix.
