Engine eats about 1qt. of oil every 7000 miles.

My engine never used to eat or burn oil. but in the last 40,000 miles, I noticed that it will consume about 1qt. every 7000 miles or so.

currently I have exactly 150,000 miles on the car....

Should I be worried?

thats not that bad considering the mileage. What kind of oil do you run? There are some consuming that much oil in 1000 miles with not even 30K miles on their motor.

Why are you waiting so long between oil changes?

I have always used Mobil 1 full-sync.

all my miles are highway miles, and after sending my oil to Blackstone for analysis a few times, we concluded that 7,000 miles was working okay for me.

If you're consuming oil I would move the intervals back to maybe 5k instead of 7k or just top it off regularly.

+1 i would change it at 5K, but still keep an eye on the oil level.

I have 146K miles on my car and I change my oil every 3500-4000 miles. Never noticed any oil consumption yet.

I go no more than 3 months or 3k miles between my oil changes even if that means I only go 2k miles.

Personally, I would never go 7k between changes

Hey Ken, I talked to blackstone recently and they said all you need to go on is mileage/use. Oil does not 'go bad' sitting in the engine, especially only 3 months.

To the OP: consider sending in a sample and they will tell you how much life you have left in your oil and how healthy your engine is.

I know, but I'm a little picky when it comes to my cars. It helps that I can get Castrol Edge at a decent discount.

I have 322,540 miles on my 1990 Q45 V8 purchased brand new and have changed oil/filter every 90 days [except when I was driving 3,000+ miles per month].
Anyway after 82 oil changes mine uses ~ 0.75>1 quart between changes [4,000 miles].

I used Mobil 1 after 4,000 miles miles all the way to 200,000 miles [2000] before switching to 10w40 conventional for the past 9 years.

I have about 72k miles on my car and I thought I had high mileage. Glad to know that my car still has a long life ahead.
