Does anybody know the origins of the G35's engine (new design or used in other cars before)? I'm wondering about how many miles I can expect out of it or even how well it will hold up to engine mods...

 

Well...considering that the anticipated Skyline R35 will be using the VQ series motor (but with turbo), the aftermarket should be very friendly....it's all a matter of time.

It's one of the best engines ever built. It has won several awards.

Nissan's VQ engine has been named for the eighth-straight year by the editors of Ward's Communications Inc. as one of the "10 Best Engines" available in the U.S. automotive market.

It is the V6 that powers the Pathfinder, the Maxima, the Altima, the 350Z and the Infiniti I35. It can be tuned for power or torque (like in the Pathfinder). It is not in the Frontier or the Xterra.

It can be made very strong, like 400HP normallly asperated, but that would be a racing application with special cams, high compression heads (13:1) and a fuel delivery system like the M3.

 

If maintained well, you should see 300k pretty easy. I am amazed at how well these motors last even when abused. The best part of all, these motors can put down some hp. As far as the rest of the car goes, if you have an automatic and have the fluid changed make sure they/you use NISSAN MATIC-J only. I've heard of a Q-45 only lasting 15 minutes after someone put Dexron-III in it.

Do you mean 300K Kilometers or Miles??? Mine is on order with a 6-speed so that should help the cars overall durability.
