vq30de heads

during one of my many goof off sessions at work, i was going through nismo's competition parts (http://www.nismo.co.jp/en/products/c...35de.html#hcrc) and began to wonder if a vq35 owner on a budget could take vq30 heads and apply them to the vq35. im not quite sure what they're referring to when stating "the intake port uses the high-potential port used in the VQ35" and wondered if someone could elaborate on that.

I know someone with a vq30de swapped some vq35de engine parts in. I dont remember exactly what it was. I saw it on a maxima forum.

I don't know if the VQ30 heads swap or not. But the VQ30 doesn't have an vtc capability so I don't know if you can put that in.

The maxima guys have been using VQ35 long blocks with the VQ30 timing chain componenents and give up the vtc and mount their cams static.

Not sure what benefit the vq30 heads would give though. High arsed compression?

yah, your compression will go 12:1 and apparently 13.5:1 can be acheived with high compression pistons. you lose 10cc of displacement per cylinder, essentially dropping you down to ~3.4 litres. i'm still trying to figure out exactly what they mean by "the intake port uses the high-potential port used in the VQ35"

Good luck trying to get any decent timing curves while trying to run that compression ratio. Unless you run high octane all the time which would be crazy expensive.

But you are confusing displacement with cylinder head volume. Displacement is basicly calculated by piston bore x stroke. Nothing to do with cylinder head chamber volume.

doh, you're right on the volume. i was also about a point off in ratios in my head, though the bmw m v10s seem to be able to get by on premium at 12:1. south florida has 93 pump gas and there are some competent tuners in the area
