Exclamation Air leak?

I was in my Engine Bay and when I turned on the car, I noticed a sound that I don't think I heard before.

If you stand on the passenger side looking at the engine you can hardly hear it. But if you stand on the Driver side of the car looking at the engine you can hear a Pssssssssssssssssss. Sounds like its coming from the Front of the engine.

Here is a pic I found on the internet too lazy to go take a pic :P
Sounds coming from this Area.

Thanks

Probably a leak in the plenum (I notice you have an aftermarket spacer in there).

Is your idle smooth or does it jump around a bit as well?

PS wtf kind of car is that vq swapped into?? LOL

Its a Datsun 510 that came up when I searched VQ35 lol

I do not have an aftermarket spacer, as I said that's just a pic I found online lol. My car is in the SIG

Idle is smooth.

at the front edge of that plenum are 2 things:

blow-by gas hose connecting plenum to valve cover

and hoses connecting valve cover to valve cover

both should be sealed and can but shouldn't leak - check both.

Take a short length of garden hose. Place to ear and use the other end to figure out where the noise is coming from. Sometimes where it sounds like it is coming from is nowhere close to the actual source. In any case it should be fairly easy to pinpoint it.

Not sure exactly what the air box is like on yours but on my 08 my car came with a defective foam seal on the part that slides out with the filter. Not real noticeable but maybe if it was just a little bit missing it may have whistled.

One thing to check is the air box for presents left behind by critters. Every car in my stable ends up with seeds, nuts, parts of my cherry trees, etc. I did have a mouse run up my windshield on the way to work once on my other car from the hood next to the windshield, but others have said it is very possible that it is small birds as well which fits in with what I have often seen and that is a bird on the top of the tire. Happens every year about this time so just maybe it is worth a look. On my other car I can scoop out a quart container of these treasures sometimes.
