q45 v8 swap

I think it would be AWESOME to swap a q45 v-8 motor into the g35 sedan. Has anyone done this, or does anyone know if this will fit?

Re: q45 v8 swap

The V8 looks quite a bit bigger. I'd bet that you'd need some serious modifications to accomodate it. You may as well replace the tranny while your at it too. It could probably be done if you were to sink enough cash into it.

Anything is possible. You just need to have enough Bling Bling to get it done.

Re: q45 v8 swap

Check out infiniti's website, the new m45 looks almost exactly like the G, but it is going to have the 4.5L v8 in the Q's. Can't wait to nitrous that baby.

Yeh, I'd like an M(45), but it's about 20k more than the G.
I just might have to go back to work. UGGG!

Re: q45 v8 swap

I was just at the dealer for an oil change 3k, and took a look at the M45 engine comp. Its obivously longer front to back. But with a little creativity and a lot of the green stuff, both types, I think it could happen. How much more does the V8 weigh compared to our beast of a V6?

Re: q45 v8 swap

For the same price you can build a monster out of your VQ without sacrificing main advantage of the G - nearly perfect weight distribution.

Re: q45 v8 swap

I understand our G35 auto-tranny is the *same one* employed in the Q45... So, no tranny swap required!

Re: q45 v8 swap

Why would it be so expensive? If one were to get a used block and re-build it from there...wouldnt cost much more than pistons, rods, cams, and anything else to really build an M3 equivalent motor with the VQ, only this block would be STOCK and have more room for power. Please, let me know if im wrong.

Yes.

I've seen this stated here many times. Our trannies are good for about 340HP & 330 ft-lbs of torque.

Re: q45 v8 swap

Buster,

Do the math yourself.

VK engine and ecu - ????
Custom fabbing to fit altternator and A/C - ???
Custom made harness - ????
different motormounts , maybe even reinforced crossmember ???

And so on. I'm not saying it is not doable it is just there are so many undefined things and unless you want to be a pioneer with a lot of dough, I don't see how building the VQ you already have in your car will be same money as doing VK swap. If you're not an owner of a garage with a lot of tools and spare time, I can almost guarantee that this swap will take more than $12k, and that is the money for a very strong boosted VQ. I'd be bold and say 450whp-ish.

Another thing to consider is how many boltons for VK do you know of ? I know of very few. For VQ we have at least 4 models owners of which usually love performance and are ready to spend money. Thus creating demand for performance upgrades. After all If you love the VK so much, why just not step up to a new M45 in less than a year ?
