I don't know if you ever got your answer, but driving through NM. I got my 2004 g35 sedan w A/T to 143... couldn't get it any faster, but the car was loaded down pretty good. I'm pretty sure the governor kicks in at 145

I had mine up to ~160ish on the weekend, it gets to 120 no problem from there its a slower climb but it is pretty steady. One of these days i would like to see how fast i could get it before it quits. 2004 coupe with 58xxx KMS.

I read where my 2004 Sedan was electronically limited to 145 MPH back in 2006, so I took it out on the Interstate 5 test facility near my home late at night with no traffic, ran it up to an indicated 145, then 146, then 147, then 148.....then I backed off and said "WTF - thought it was limited".

Went back and posted my results on the forum (either this one or the 6MT forum, don't recall), and received the message back that the 5AT Sedans are limited to 145, but 6MT Sedan and all Coupes are limited to 155 MPH.

Never tried to go over 140 MPH again (although I've been there a few more times), but I can tell you that it pulled like a freight train up to 140 and was still pulling when I shut her down at 148 (indicated).

As for all the comments about it being "dangerous", it's only the roadway and conditions and the driver's ability that make it dangerous, not the car. As long as it's properly maintained and equipped (Speed rated tires in good condition, wheels balanced properly, brakes in good order, etc.), the car itself is an international design that is intended to run on the Autobahns in Germany with unlimited speeds. I recall reading a story a few years back about a guy who challenged people who said the car was unsafe at high speeds, he told of how he was stationed in Germany in the late 2000's and his daily commute involved an approx 8 minute run at 140 MPH on the Autobahn, car being rock solid and handles that speed very capably.

My $0.02

A quick google search does say 155mph top speed for 6spd G35's. There's a youtube vid of a guy hitting the 155mph limiter.

I think I've only gotten mine a little over 100mph (maybe 105-110). I kinda baby my G so I don't need to go faster. I've gone plenty of times at 160+ on my sportbike though...

Just thought I should post since I might be the guy that is being referred to in the thread as the one that had a G in Germany. I bought my coupe in 2004 new. Had it in Germany for 5 years. I drove awesome. Max speed was at about 156-157 completely stock and no mods. Car handled beautifully and was rock solid on the autobahn. Now I live in the UK, had my engine built with all the necessary supporting mods, pushing 450hp with a Vortech supercharger and I haven't even taken my G to those speeds. My tuner told me that I should be able to do 185 mph now, but my last trip to Germany I didn't even drive past 140mph. Maybe I'm not acclimated to the speed anymore or the Motordyne exhaust is obnoxiously loud at those speeds or something, but I don't know if I'd drive those speeds again now that my car is modified. I know it sounds weird, but maybe after dumping so much money into the car, having a stiffer suspension, louder exhaust, makes me think twice about driving fast and losing it in an accident. Just my two cents.

That's understandable.

When you spend thousands of dollars modifying your car, its sometimes not worth the risk of crashing it when driving too fast.

Is there a relatively safe way to gear it out? Maybe a track with a long straight somewhere??

Noobie questions

I have a 2006 MT G35 w a stock ecu.
I'm looking to buy uprev and take it to import shop for dyno tune.
I've heard the governor on my stock ecu is like 137mph but I hear people going stock 150mph+ and am confused about this.
Last question: With uprev tuner package (the $700 one) will my governor be removed, and what would you guys guess my top speed would be after tune with the following mods.

Z-tube
5/16 spacer
MREV2
ART pipes
Very small ***** (weight reduction)

I can almost guarantee there's no governor on the 2006 6MT, when I purchased mine I had it out on the runway of a private airport my friend works at and I was 150+ and pegged at redline when I thought I would run out of tarmac and took the runaway exit hard on the brakes.

I am also pretty certain my ECM is on the stock tune but I've never actually checked.

@seymore4 might be able to verify whether or not there is a factory top speed governor on these ECM's since he's been in them regularly.

Try to find a runway around 1.5 miles. The one I was at was only 1.3 miles, I was able to do a hard entry to the start of the runway so I started at about 35mph and would have run out of track with anything shorter and I had a nice runway exit that I hit at about 60ish mph. Obviously more power will get you there quicker and I'm only breather/cats, no tune. The top end you really start feeling the aero drag and acceleration basically just stops at 150 with those mods.

Kumho is the brand, Ecsta is their performance tire line, then there are the different specific tires, they all use a code like PA## (P for Passenger, A is for all-season), PS## (S is for summer), V### (V is the highest performance summer tires they make) The number is a way to designate between different tires within the same series and typically the higher number is the better tire.

They are offered with a variety of different speed ratings, the G35 should be equipped with Y rated summer tires according to the door sticker which are good for 186mph, however the vehicle isn't even capable of this top speed so my all-seasons are rated W which is good for 168mph, even a V or Z rated tire would be fine since they are rated 149mph.

The number before the speed rating is the LOAD rating of the tire.

Double check before purchasing but I think all the Ecsta tires are W or Y rated, sometimes manufacturers use a lower rating on 15" tires since you start getting quite a bit of deflection with that size on a taller tire but the G35 is all 17, 18, 19" so they should all be either W or Y.

I used the PA51 last winter and just swapped back to a summer set of PS91, daily driver stuff not track use. Track use for autoX just save up and get some Michelin Cup tires, you won't regret it. Straight line track you need a dedicated straight line tire like the MT ET Street or something along those lines, I wouldn't recommend anything grippier unless you have upgraded the rear axles to at LEAST the stock 370Z axles.

Here's a shot of the door sticker for the '06 6MT.
