Larger Oil Filter

Sorry if this has been answered (couldn't find anything with a search)...
Has anyone used an aftermarket oil filter which is larger than the stock unit? I typically use K&N filters, as large as possible without clearance problems. The stock filter is the smallest I've ever seen on any vehicle! Clearly since several Nissan vehicles use this (including 350Z), it's sufficient. However, if a larger filter will fit, I'd rather use that. I like Q45Tech's idea - add the Stillen oil-pan extension for more capacity - that's probably overkill though for street driving. The problem going bigger might be clearance near the front of the filter (some kind of connector or solenoid there as I recall).

Re: Larger Oil Filter

hey barry,

i'm using the mobil M1-105 filter which is larger than the stock replacement, M1-108 and it fits fine. don't think there's anything wrong with going with a larger filter.

Or if you wanted to stay with Nissan brand, you can use Nissan p/n 15208-9E000 , which is the Maxima, Altima, Pathfinder VQ30/VQ35 filter.

I too was disapointed with the size of the OEM filter (p/n 15208-65F00) so I disgussed this with a Nissan tech, and he recommended the larger Max. filter.

Re: Larger Oil Filter

I had left over honda filters for my accord and used it for the g35. No problems at all. no leaks or anything. AND it's TWICE the size.

Re: Larger Oil Filter

What's the point of having a larger size? catch more dirt? cools down faster?
