NISMO CAI or Z-TUBE w/ POP CHARGER?

NISMO CAI or Z-TUBE w/ POP CHARGER?

I'm looking to get my intake done this weekend and need to ask everyone for their feedback before i pull the trigger.

I know i'm not gonna get super gains, just want a lil more kick and some more growl. Oh yeah, i'm gonna get K&N filter put in, too. Hearing great stuff about it.

Also, does doing this void any warranty?

Thanks everyone...

Do a search. This has been discussed to death.

It's all up to your dealer to decide. According to Infiniti's purchasing agreement that anything you change out that is not OEM to go on your Model of infiniti you are violating the warranty. But according to the consumer law they can not turn down waranty service if they can not determine the aftermarket parts cause the failure. You can argue with them but it depends on your dealer.

I've run both intakes and neither gave me any gains over the stock airbox. What I do like about the Nismo is how it cleaned up my engine bay and allowed me to remove alot of that plastic. Next year, when my filter gets dirty, I'll most likely return to stock.

If you go with the P/C, you'll also need the Z Tube....that's what really gives you the appreciable sound difference and any HP gains. If you go with the Nismo, you won't need to also purchase the Z Tube.

Re: NISMO CAI or Z-TUBE w/ POP CHARGER?

There have been some issues regarding loss of low-end torque with the CAIs, though there is some improvement at higher speeds. Most of the CAIs require somewhat elaborate installation - cutting foam out of the wheel well and snaking the tubing up to the intake manifold. There has also been concern regarding hydrolock, but I think Nismo has a valve to avoid this. Of all the CAIs, I believe that Nismo has the best dyno numbers in terms of [minor] gains throughout the entire power band.

The PC is a very popular choice, though as always on this forum, there has been plenty of debate whether the PC brings in more air, more warm air, or is essentially about the same as stock. Still, Jim Wolf claims HP increase and I'm sure there are dyno's to back this up.

Personally, I have the Z-tube and K&N drop in filter - this combo was cheap, very stealth, and probably provides as many ponies as the PC and maybe the CAI.

All systems will give you a great sound. The Nismo and PC will give your engine a distinct look as well. The Z-tube is stealth but probably provides similar power gains. It's going to be up to your personal preference. As for myself, I didn't want to have to cut anything to make a CAI work and I was additionally worried about all the dust (brake dust) that could get in to the filter due to its proximity to the brake. The PC was a possibility, but it just looks to me that it doesn't take advantage of the stock ram-air set up and that there's a high liklihood of warm air getting into the system (just my opinion). The Z-Tube and K&N provides a good sound, better filtration, and (in my opinion) noticeable gains for a very low cost. I also believe that the stock RAM air system is well designed and this set up leverages it.

Don't worry about what your dealer says about mods - the law's on your side. If you begin to have chronic problems and they can definitively point the finger at your intake system (extremely unlikely) you might have reason to be concerned...'course the Z-tube is a Nissan product and you can get a Nismo high-performance air filter that is essentially the same as the K&N, so you'd at least have that on your side.

Don't forget to reset your ECU after you change your intake!

Have fun - it's a minor mod and you'll definitely hear the difference if not feel it.

Thanks fellas. Just got back from getting the parts installed.

Nice sound and a lil more kick to it. Sounds badass at WOT as people said.

Now the question remains... Exhaust? Or Audio?

Thanks again guys, except CATO.

Re: NISMO CAI or Z-TUBE w/ POP CHARGER?

Something to consider hydrolock...

The Z-Tube and P/C (or stock airbox) will not allow this scenario to happen. At least not as easily as your standard CAI.
