I changed from RT Cats to Ultimates just a month or so ago. I've been very happy with the rasp elimination from the RTs but had a slight vibration when downshifting. Well just yesterday a very loud noise began coming from the exhaust system. It definitely sounded like a large exhaust leak.

I took it into a local muffler shop for a look see. They put it up on the rack and showed me the problem. The converter bracket mount actually tore from the converter creating a split seam allowing exhaust to escape. Converter needs replaced. They also showed me where the vibration occurs. Both converters are so close to the floor near the motor mount that under the slight amount of torque (either forward or reverse) they hit the floor. The design doesn't fit the G properly.

Overall, besides the slight vibration, I've been very happy with sound of the Ultimates, much better than the RTs. I'd buy them all over again. They have a 5 year warranty and I'm sure Adam @ Z1 Performance will take care of me. It's just a hassle to get this taken care of.

Why would you buy them again if they are defective?

03 5AT Sedan, sunroof, splashguards, HKS muffler,
14 wire Grounding kit, Z Duct, Stillen HF/AB
Underbody rear diffusers, Drilled alum pedals,
Stillen sway bars H/H

 

First they're replaced free if defective for 5 years and 2nd they sound so much better than my old RTs!!

It seems if it is a design flaw for the G, then you should look into a way to fix that flaw or work around it. Or else you are going to waste a lot of time and other peoples money getting these things fixed over and over. Does the company making the cats claim they will fit on the G? If they are for the Z only, then you may run into problems with them refusing to keep replacing them on the grounds that you did not use the product on the vehicle it was intended for. Just a few things to think about. Please keep us up to date on your r&d on these. Maybe, with your help, they will redesign their cats to fit both platforms!

Well I bought them based on what Adam at Z1 Performance said. That they would fit our G. Ultimate also agreed they should fit. I will though have to pound the floor board and heatshield a little to totally eliminate the rattle. There was only a rattle sometimes. They are going to look at the pics I have underneath my G so they might make adjustments.
