Did something fall off?

I did the marker light conversion to functional turn blinking and found the wheel well has some issues. Is there supposed to be a piece of plastic covering this area of the passenger well? I can see fittiing for hydraulics or AC or something and it probably all get directly affected by the rain spinning off the tires!

PS this mod rocks and you CAN keep the oem functionality in the lights. Can't believe they left the factory like this without blinking.

Re: Did something fall off?

If you mean those rectangular holes, my 2004 has them also. I don't know what function they serve, but they seem to be intentional. Could be something related to turbulence/noise, or maybe even a vent function for the inner fender area.

Re: Did something fall off?

I think you need to attach grounding wires to those holes and you'll gain 19 more rwhp... Well maybe... (that was a special post for 6-5 and not intended to start any wars or anything. And for all you grounding wire fanatics cut me some slack, I've endured 2 hurricanes and have a leaking roof, downed trees, and really needed to come on here and post stupid stuff...)

<hr></blockquote> OK 6-5 you have a homework assignment. Go out and look at that dot. Notice what it coincides with on each of your rims. Come back here and tell us what it coincides with...

Re: Did something fall off?

OK i give - not all wheels have them and the 2 that do have them at different x and y coordinates when facing the wheel..one is closer to middle and on the spoke and the other is not...?

Re: Did something fall off?

"I believe" (reads not 100% sure) some manufacturers of directional tires use visual aids to show you which part of the tire goes on the outer side of the vehicle to prevent someone from mounting the tire the wrong way. On my car I have the Michellin Pilot Sports and all 4 have the dot and all 4 are visible.

Any tire experts want to chime in?

Re: Did something fall off?

Maybe I mispoke the dot is on the wheel itself per the pic and the tires are two directional AS's. Or at least the dealer treats them that way when they swap sides. I think it may be an inspection pass mark or something

Re: Did something fall off?

I think they are used similar to this:

TIRE-WHEEL MATCH MOUNTING FOR OPTIMUM UNIFORMITY

Mickey Thompson® is pleased to advise you that all Baja Radial MTX™ light truck tires will be identified with a yellow "match mounting mark" (yellow dot) on the sidewall (see Figure 1). The purpose of the match mounting mark is to provide an aid in matching these tires to a rim, when the tire is first mounted, to provide the best possible ride.

Details and procedures for proper match mounting are as follows:

Rim Details:
New passenger and light truck vehicles:

(A) Ford and Chrysler passenger and LT steel rims, and most steel replacement rims, have a paint dot or small painted daub in the drop well portion of the rim at the rim low spot.

(B) GM and most Japanese vehicle manufacturers use the valve hole to mark the low point.

(C) Other manufacturers are using a removable colored sticker or a brightly colored washable paint mark on the rim flange area of the rims. These are generally removed by the vehicle dealer upon sale of the vehicle.

Aluminum and polycast rim low spots are located at the valve hole.

Unmarked rims of all types generally have the low spot at the valve hole.
Procedures:
Locate the yellow dot on the sidewall of the Baja Radial MTX tire. On a raised white letter tire, the round yellow dot will appear on the white sidewall side (either above or below the white sidewall). Blackwall tires will have the round yellow dot on the sidewall opposite the tire identification number (also known as the D.O.T. or serial number). This indicates the high spot of the tire. Note, the match mounting mark on a Baja Radial MTX tire will only be in the form of a round yellow dot. No other marks or any other colored dots should be considered as a match mounting mark.

<hr></blockquote> My white dots on the tires ALL PERFECTLY ALIGN with the valve stem hole in the rim. This is what I was originally referring to, but when 6-5 went and looked at his rims and tires and said his were all different. This led me to reply with a more general statement and follow with I wasn't 100% sure. I should have stuck to my guns about the valve stems aligning with the dot... shucks.
