Transmission Slipping
Transmission Slipping
This is my first post so I apologize if it is in the wrong section.
Around Christmas time I had an oil change at a dealer in Boston, the dealer recommended a transmission flush, I live in Brooklyn and really don't drive the car very often so I decided to wait. Not long ago the transmission began to slip and shift very roughly. I decided to have the transmission flushed, hoping that would solve the problem. I took it to a local shop, which may not have been a good idea.
The car was good for a couple of weeks but now is slipping and will not shift once I hit around 40 mph, I have a feeling that if I were to accelerate very hard it might shift, but I don't want to risk doing any further damage. The local shop put in some kind of blue ATF and I am sure they did not put in the factory kind, is this a problem? Should I take it to a dealer and have it re-flushed? Could the ATF be the whole problem and not a complete mechanical issue?
Money is an extreme issue for me right now, so I would love to avoid paying dealer labor, but if it is the only way to get it fixed I guess I will have to. However, all of the dealers in NYC have very poor reviews, if anyone here could recommend a shop I would be very grateful.
I also just bought some Lucas Oil transmission fix but am not sure if I should put it in, does anyone know if this stuff is even worth it? And total newb question but if I were to add it, where do I pour it? I see the tank right by the firewall, the one with the filter, is this the place?
Thank you so much in advance for any help, I know it's hard to give advice sight unseen.

ive heard that ams oil trans fluid is the best to get and actually improves the performance of AT transmissions, you could always change fluid urself and try it,i think it runs around 9-10 bucks a qrt
You are required to put Nissan Matic J (discontinued) or S fluid into your tranny. Neither of these are blue and I would bet money the fluid has now damaged your transmission. On the front of the car on the radiator support there is a yellow sticker that warns Nissan Matic J MUST be used or the warranty on the trans will be voided.
If I were you I'd take it back to the shop and make them fix it. Whether it just needs a flush with the correct fluid or replacing I do not know. I would go down there and raise hell though, because it is their responsibility they did not put the right fluid in. Especially since it says it right on the damn car.
On a second note I wouldn't even risk putting in the Amsoil fluid if it will damage the tranny. Unless there are people here who have done it and it is proven to work fine with the Jatco RE5R05A
