Usually those shields fall apart except around the O2 bung. Be careful not to damage or pull on that wire. A good note too if u pull them off buy a man of the good spray can style rhino liner like the 8-11 dollar one and spray the floorboard and part of the firewall. It will deflect heat from the cabin and keep temps down next to ur transmission since the side pump and pan are right next to ur cats. Very cheap cost for a lot of preventive maintaince.

my noise started @ 95000 miles and took it into dealer before warrante expired. they said that my cats are clogged with the honeycomb material that is inside of them. Only thing to do is replace cats. I now have 166000 and have NOT ever replaced them. I'll wait till my check engine light goes on and I cant pass emissions before a spend a **** load of money on new cats

Answer

I have 2008 g35 sedan....the shield is the one underneath the rear passenger side area..above the drive train coupler.. Has three bolts on each side and and a small strut underneath it. Remove the strut and pull out the shield. Sound went completely away after removal

I had the same problem with my Infiniti I took it to jiffy lube they said it was some kind of plate not sure the name of it but it had some loose bolts and would cause the noise whenever I went 40 miles or faster. They screwed on the bolts tighter and the noise stopped. It was free. I’m so glad I went in for an oil change and also that noise problem. So glad they did it for free. I was thinking it was a big problem that would cost a lot of money. Most likely it’s something loose. Good luck.
