Turn signal ticker busted!?!?

Funny thing.. the turn signal doesn't tick naturally. Remember the good 'ol days when the ticking came from the mechanical noise of the flasher? Well, my G stopped ticking today - but the signals still flash! So, I guess the ticking was coming from a speaker of sorts that causes the ticking sound. Ha ha ha! Go figure!?!?

So, can someone with a shop manual tell me where the ticker unit is? I would rather fix it myself rather than taking it in, if ya know what I mean. Thanks all!

PS At 5500KM, this ticker didn't even last as long the old mechanical ones!

Re: Turn signal ticker busted!?!?

seems like there is some sort of "Buzzer" indicated in the shop manual...
Also, check for bad fuses.

Re: Turn signal ticker busted!?!?

np dude, but sorry i cant find anything related to this Buzzer or any signal sound emitting device...the esm seems to focus on lighting throughout the entire Turn Signal/Hazard section

Re: Turn signal ticker busted!?!?

Bingo! Got it! Okay, FYI in case anyone else needs this:

The "Buzzer" is the same unit that emits the "Lights On" and "Key in Ignition" beeps. You can check this by turning on the emergency flasher, then turn on the headlights with the door open and no key in the ignition. You'll hear that the "Lights On" beep overrides the ticking of the hazard flashers.

So, I found the 10 Amp fuse for the "buzzer" and pulled it - not blown. Hmmm.... put the fuse back in and BAM, tick, tick, tick.

The ticking is obviously electronically generated and played through this "buzzer". All the other sounds worked fine but the ticking somehow went missing. Once I pulled the fuse, the circuit must have reset itself. Strange but true....

Thanks Rambo for the "check the fuse" tip!

Re: Turn signal ticker busted!?!?

I've heard others on here (not many) complain that their indicator clicker stopped clicking. As quickly as it stopped, it corrected itself and clicked again. Go figure. Maybe you found the fix--- when it stops, you just pull the 'buzzer' fuse and replace it to reset the system.

Re: Turn signal ticker busted!?!?

I don't really have anything to add except that my "ticker" has gone out on me once too (but the signals still worked). Next time I started my car, it was back to normal. It went out on me when I had to swerve around something just before my turn. I'd guess it was related to a power steering surge in the contrary direction right at the point where the signal would automatically shut off (as you straighten out of your turn), but I'm pulling that out of a poorly-lit orifice.

Re: Turn signal ticker busted!?!?

You know, having it go out is not necessarily bad.. it's a rather annoying fake click that it makes.

Re: Turn signal ticker busted!?!?

The ticker noise is from a relay. It is a small box with a series of plugs on the bottom. When it opens and closes, it makes a ticking noise. The relay may be near your glovebox.

Re: Turn signal ticker busted!?!?

Most cars use a mechanical relay. The G35 doesn't. It fakes it through a speaker. See the electrical diagram a couple of posts up. It doesn't even sound like a mechanical click.

Re: Turn signal ticker busted!?!?

Same thing happened to me, and then when i turned off the car there was a constant buzz. I had to restart the car to turn it off and it hasn't happened since.

Re: Turn signal ticker busted!?!?

mine went out 4 days ago and is still out... just found this thread and will move it to the DIY section. Restarted the car about 15 times since, buzzer sound is still out. Will try to pull the fuse today and see if it makes a difference. If not, i will try the Easy-ECU reset method.

Re: Turn signal ticker busted!?!?

My ticker sound also mysteriously disappeared for about 10 minutes about a week ago. It came back without shutting the car off during the same drive.
-Very strange indeed!

Re: Turn signal ticker busted!?!?

UPDATE: Could not find the fuse for this next to the dead-pedal, so i gave up. Then i put the key into the ignition while the driver's door was open (normally you'd hear a beep-beep-beep warning chime when you do this)
The buzzer/speaker made a modem noise, you know that noise that you hear when you dial-up an internet connection (for those of you who didnt have cable-modems or DSL in the past- you'd understand me)
So it made this noise for about 15 seconds and then all of sudden it started beeping normally

Random i tell ya! Totally random!
