I have a 04 6MT coupe. I just added the Y pipe to it and when I was doing that I noticed a small muffler between the cats and the main muffler. Another friend of mine has an 03 and it is not on his? What is it there for and would it do anything negatively if I took it off?? Looks like another way to tune the car down?

It's the resonator, a small straight thru muffler that takes out some of the rasp and tones down the exhaust. It is also on your friends '03. If it's not on his, it's been removed. Go take a look.

Is there any gains or losses in HP from removing it?

 

There might be a small gain due to a bit less restriction. However, it will sound a bit louder and more raspy. Some have removed it, and liked the sound, other's have hated it, and put it back on. Personal preference.

no idea...but i like the way it sounds with the resonator...sounds sweeet!....i know people have done it to their Gs though
