JIC Y-Pipe Finally Installed

Well it took me FOREVER, but I finally got the JIC Y-Pipe installed.

This weekend we had a meet in Tampa (at Lokey Infiniti) and we had a blast. John at Lokey set up a big deal for us with food, drinks, deserts, performance modifications and "hurricane hospitality". Their "Performance Division" installed my Y-Pipe and I can finally comment on it.

The construction of the Y-Pipe is great. The stock Y-Pipe is made rather cheaply and looks just awful. As far as a performance gain, I don't notice anything; however the exhaust does sound a little meaner (or deeper) with the intake, plenum and h/f cats. I'm not sure if it was worth $420+ installation, but now that I have it on, I'm not taking it off .

My butt dyno is way out of calibration so no increase felt at all, but I'm one who believes that 4 or 5 rwhp is not really too noticeable. Who knows, there are people that say I need to drive 200 miles before I'll feel anything so we'll see.

Recap - Only noticeable change (so far) is the sound. It is almost the same as before under normal acceleration, but definitely deeper at WOT. Sound is now meaner and more aggressive than before, a definite plus in my book.

Oh yeah, absolutely no drone like what I heard in Gspot35's Vortec S/C sedan with the Stillen Exhaust. That drone would drive me crazy!!!

neffster: I notice that you have test pipes on... What is the porduction date on your car if you don't mind me asking... I was told that if the date of production is after 11/03 the test pipes would trigger the engine light... I would have to run race cats to prevent the light from coming on...

Thanks in Advance...

jdb- I actually have the Random Technology (R/T) High Flow Cats, not test pipes. Check out this graph to see the differences between straight pipes and 2 of the most popular catalytic converter replacement options... FYI, this graph came off of my350z.com and was done by Techno Square (I assume it was done in a flow booth)...

That's just a nice, clean solid-looking unit (the Y pipe). Nah, you won't notice a few hp increase.

those pics looks like race pipes to me too.

ajdbinspired, I have a 2004.5 and the service engine light comes on with race pipes. I've reset the ECU 3 times and it always comes back on.

Check your O2 sensors. Go to AutoZone and get them to read the error code for free. The heated sensors break if you look at them funny. This is common when the Cats are messed with...bump the O2 sensor, pay $120. Speaking from experience.

Re: JIC Y-Pipe Finally Installed

Do you mean you will notice some increase in HP from the Y pipes??? Because after I had them installed I noticed a good increase in power! Plus the fact that the factory part weighs about 2 times what the y pipe does. Small amount I know but any lbs off is only a good thing.

Re: JIC Y-Pipe Finally Installed

edly,

I "think" the y-axis is in cfm (cubic feet/minute) and the x axis is in rpm. Cannot be 100% sure, and it's too early for me to give it much more thought than that... 5:54am.

For the record, that "drone" with the Stillen cat-back for the sedans showed up when the crawford cats were installed. I like to think of it as a growl now.

Sorry to hijack

I think if you drive fast enough, the "growl" doesn't have time to catch up with you.
Heck, everything is fun with 400 ft-lb of torque.
