03 G35 Coupe valve tick [does it have hydraulic lifters or not?]

I have a tick in coming from my engine. I take the car to a local shop and they tell me I do not have hydraulic lifters and 1 or 2 may need to be adjusted.

Today I go to an Infiniti dealership and they tell me the car has hydraulic lifters and to drive the car around at higher RPMs and see if i can get more oil to the lifters because one may be low from the car sitting for the winter.

They told me to come back in a week and if it is still ticking they will put thicker oil in the car and see if that works. If that doesnt then they might need to replace a lifter.

not hydraulic lifters... yes on the oil issue (possibly)...

But its likely that your first mechanic is correct - valve lash may need to be adjusted...

That's what I thought. When I told the service manager at infiniti that he said no, they are hydraulic lifters. He even brought out the "head shop foreman" with 25 years experience to tell me they are self-adjusting lifters. How can infinti not know about their own cars?

tell him to read this and use his 25 years experience to explain how they self adjust.
