Crank pully and set? any good? Need info/help plz
I apologize for the ignorance in advance, but how well does upgrading the pully's in an automatic transmission work?
What's the difference between these two?

Worth it for an auto? And what's the difference between those two? Thanks and sorry for my ignorance!

I have the UR crank pulley. Love it. Def feel its pull off the line. Best non-placebo / immediate result mod I've done so far!

Yeah best mod other than the plenum. Be wary of the people that don't own them who know more than those of us who do own them that claim your motor is going to vibrate to bits. To be sure you are not getting bad advice just say the following: "got proof?"

Get a non-clear jar and put one red candy in it. Then, put 1000 green candies in it. Shake it up. Keep reaching in and pull out 1 candy at a time. Then, let me know how many pieces of candy you pulled out before you can say "There are only green candies in this jar". When you say that phrase, pretend you are betting your new engine against the addition of 5 HP. There's your free lesson in research methodology and statistics.
Now for the real info.
Fact: The crank pulley will give you about 5 HP and faster revs, accelerating and decelerating.
Fact: The stock pulley is damped with a rubber ring on it. The aftermarket pulleys do not.
Fact: The rubber ring absorbs vibration caused by the belts. Fact: The belts are connected to pulleys and one of those pulleys is connected to your crankshaft.
Fact: With proper oil analysis you can detect any bearing failure in your crankshaft by looking for higher than normal contents of lead.
Fact: No one on this forum or any other Nissan related forum has complained of bearing failure and been able to "prove" that it was pulley related.
Fact: People mod their cars, then un mod them and sell them.
Fact: Some crank bearings fail in the later stages of engine life, some sooner, some later.
Conclusion/opinion:
Weigh what the risk/reward is to you, based on fact, and make a decision that's right for you and your plans for the car and needs for performance. But don't do it without being an informed consumer, armed with all the facts. Ask for facts and make reasoned conclusions using a scientific methodology. Will you keep the car for 50,000 miles, or 250,000 miles? Do you maintain it well? Are you willing to perform oil analysis to manage the risk? Do you worry about Karma?
There's no cut and dry answer for ANY mod, but try to ask the right questions and make informed decisions and you may feel better about whether or not you've succeeded at fulfilling your mission. So, what is your mission and what cost/reward/risk are you willing to live with?

So...what's the difference when I look online to buy...and I see one selling like one large pully..and the other one selling a "set" of bunch of pully's? Different uses? Sorry I'm very ignorant, just trying to learn. =)

The smaller pulley is the Underdrive Crank Pulley. This is the pulley you want. The other pulleys are the same size as the stock ones and are just slightly lighter. I've read that ALL of the horsepower gains come from Underdriving your accessories, so if you want to save a few bucks, just get the Underdrive pulley and the 2 smaller belts.
-Fish,
One FACT that you may want to reconsider... There used to be a person who posted under the name Infinititech who "said" that he saw 2 engines that had bearing walk. One had an underdrive pulley attached to it, the other had obvious signs of having the pulley bolt removed and replaced (reads had a aftermarket pulley on the car, had an engine problem, swapped out the aftermarket pulley with the stock pulley and brought the car in for warranty work).
This single post is what kept me from installing the pulleys that I had in my den. If it weren't for that one post, I'd be enjoying the 5hp and quicker revs with 6-5 and Al right now...

Neff,
I remember those posts but didn't list them as fact because I didn't have first hand knowledge of the incidents. Although I believe them to be true, It's still "heresay". I was trying to be as objective as possible to head off any flames and lay it out for the newbie in a way I'd want it laid out for me.
Al,
Thanks for the kudos.
It's nice to be able to discuss something objectively like adults without the nastiness that creeps up often when someone has made a different (informed or uninformed) decision as I.
Neff, if you are willing to perform oil analysis and give full disclosure to whomever you sell your G to (to protect your Karma), then I see no reason why you shouldn't reconsider.

Re: Crank pully and set? any good? Need info/help plz
Like any mod, if it is not installed properly, it can lead to problems. Unfortunately, an incorrectly installed crank pulley can lead to bigger problems than most screwups. I suspect that is what happened on the bearing walk cases.
I paid the extra money and had the dealer do the whole set. That was 9 months ago and never the slightest problem. Only a nice strong pull from idle to redline. It may be "only" 5HP, but it feels like more. UR makes good stuff. Install it right and you will be happy.

I ordered my oil analysis kit last week and will be doing another M1 change very soon here at close to 12.5k miles... I do M1 & filter changes between 3,000 & 3,100. I'll update the thread after i get the results.
