Major Engine Problem - Need Help

Well, guess the car couldn't run good forever.

Was driving home today and started a somewhat brisk acceleration from a traffic light just lightly boosting, nothing major and all of a sudden the car started jerking, and the engine basically was shutting off - almost in the same way as if the rev-limiter was kicking in.

No engine noises other than above 2k RPM, the engine just starts jerking and seemingly shutting off. Under 2k RPM is runs normally.

Also, on idle the Air-Fuel indicates 10 which is really rich.

Anyone have any ideas what this could be? The check engine light is on, but its been on for a long time now (always kicks an occasional misfire due to my set-up which is normal) But after dinner i'll have to read the codes to see if anything else pops up.

Crap. I hope i didnt' blow the engine or a ring or some **** like that. That would suck big time!

Well, looks like good news for once today. (The other bad news being i got my wife's Mazda stuck in literally about 3 feet of mud last night - don't ask . . .)

ECU codes popped P1273, P1271, and P1281 which all point to a bad A/F sensor. That would explain the rich A/F i was getting and also why the engine was cutting out under higher throttle.

Also, drove it tonite and everything was running fine again. Have to wait a day or two and see if it acts up again whether its just a clogged A/F, or its really failing.

Not even sure if i should even replace it right now. Its been running fine all day. I'll just wait and see if it acts up.

Weird.

No harm in replacing it. With extra heat it isn't likely to last as long anyways. Pre-emptive replacement
