$720 is what I payed for the sleeves also, but your installation price is way off. There is no way any machine shop, including SGP, can install the AEBS sleeves for $400. Once you see the sleeves in person you would understand. It is a lot, repeat, a lot of machine work. Don't forget to add a gasket kit to your totals. How about cams, I went with Tomei 264's. I also got a Koyo radiator. How about a new plenum? What about upgrading your entire fuel system to handle 15psi? I got the Altered Atmosphere complete fuel system. You see where this is going, never ending. Next is the stand alone HKS V-con pro and 1000cc injectors. You really need to sit down and figure out the goals for your car and build a combination around that. Otherwise it can get out of control. Sleeves are up to you. I could have had my engine done in a week by just throwing in rods and pistons into a used engine. Looking back I kind of wish I did. The wait is starting to get to me. And I still have at least another 2 months.

Joe...

I was a little surprised at the cost disparity myself... $400 vs $1000....

I have in fact sat down and figured out the cost of the system... The extra $1720 for sleeves is huge IMO... Will post the breakdown soon.... let me know what you think...

you didn't screw up any part of the valvetrain in this failure? hey dude, just a word of caution, all this money yer droppin in the motor, just be careful tuning it. someone posted this earlier, just because you have all the upgraded parts does not mean your motor is indestructable. i've seen fully built motors give out also. if you are gonna go all out, might as well get the head done too. you wouldnt wanna drop a valve and get pieces of metal into the combustion chamber and eat away at your pistons and cylinder walls. is this motor driven with a chain or timing belt? my last car had a built bottom end and of all things, my timing belt snapped and the valves put nice etchings into the crowns of two pistons and scathed the wall. fortunately i was able to hone out the scratches and the etchings didn't effect the compression.

Profile.....

Yeah, I agree with you. I have known this for a while... a badly tuned motor will take out any engine... However... it will a little harder to do it... and the sleeves will withstand quite a bit of detonation (not that I am planning to have ANY)...

A huge amount of care will be taken to do this right...

I for one am not going FI without upgrading the motor after seeing all these post both here and my350z.com. And with the costs associated, and not to mention the work......the C6 is looking more and more tempting. In fact, the next Z06 is rumored to have 500HP stock. sorry about your motor gurgen. But when it's built, and with your tuning knowledge, you are going to have one awesome car when it's all done.

sounds like your tranny is hanging in there just fine. good luck with the money things. maybe it is time to reengineer your habits?

perhaps sell the TT kit for enough to buy a new VQ, then sell the car and buy a cheaper platform? a 2-3 year old C5 vette might be a damn good investment for speed.

I wouldn't do that but I have considered it several times when I start looking at the costs to SC mine safely.
