how to diagnose oil consumption??

I read the long thread about people having oil consumption issues... but I did not see a way to diagnose if i have that issue or not. I do not do my own oil changes... can i still tell? thanks

I own German performance cars... I just bought a G35... I like the G35... thank you...bye now.

have the dealer (or whoever does you oil changes) do the change and then measure it again after 1000 or 2000 miles by emptying the oil and measuring it (tare). The dealer is monitoring my consumption right now (but not being very honest about it, they overfilled it dramatically to make the problem seem moot... nice, I know).

Re: how to diagnose oil consumption??

Can't you just pull the dipstick yourself, wipe it with a
papertowel, dip it again and check your oil level? If it's at
the lower mark, add oil, if it's at the mid+ or high mark,
nothing else to do.

You should do that anyway at least once a month just to
check.

Your oil MUST be checked before you start the car, after you turn the car off, before you wash it, and on alternating full moons or your warrantee will be voided..........

Re: how to diagnose oil consumption??

Let the car sit overnight. Pull the dipstick in the morning when all the oil is in the pan. Wipe the first reading, stick it back in, and remove again, it will be a accurate reading the 2nd time around.

Thanks DaveO for the advice on this! :P
