synthetic or regular

I need everyone's opinion cuz i'm completely clueless.

Do you think it's worth getting synthetic oil over regular? My coupe has 10k and i've heard from many peeps on the post that they use synthetic. What are the benefits and u think i should switch over? thanks!

Re: synthetic or regular

It depends on your driving style, climate, and how long you want to go between drain intervals. I prefer synthetics and keeping longer OCI's rather than regular and short intervals, but either works.

Re: synthetic or regular

I'm very doubtful that butt-dyno will notice any difference. If this is a car that you intend to keep for a long time, then you should consider synthetic. Theoretically this will provide the engine with better lubrication.

Re: synthetic or regular

The wight of the oil has a bigger impact on performance than anything else. FYI, I have read that our VQ engines like thicker oil such as thick 30wt and even 40wt. I'll be switching to synthetic at around 10k and will use the 0w-30 Castrol Syntec made in germany, which is more like a 40wt.

Re: synthetic or regular

Change to Mobil 1 asap. Engine runs cooler and is cleaner.
Since synthetic virtually does not burn, engine valves, fulel injectors and spark plugs are cleaner and last much longer. I've driven over 200,000 2 cars (3.8 and 3.5 l engines) and both cars had 28-30 mpg on a highway. No maintenance (except for spark plugs and timing belt). Second one has 195,000 right now and still original muffler. Once you change to synthetic - do not go back. Your fuel consumption will improve, too. Winter startup is much smoother, etc....
My (G-35) salesman first asked, when I'm switching to Mobil 1. Also, just recently I drove SLK 55 AMG - engine compartment has a sticker: "recommeded Mobil 1"

No question, save on repairs and maintenance. My recommendation for oil change: 4500-6000 miles depending on driving style, speeds and filter quality.

Hurry up...
P.S. I'm not related in any way to Mobil.

Re: synthetic or regular

I always have used Mobil 1 on my S-class, but some where I read that Infiniti did not recommend the use of synthetic. Don't know why it would be problem, I would prefer it. If any techs who know the answer, please correct if this is wrong.

Re: synthetic or regular

I am running with Castrol Synth oil right now, but changing to MOTUL 300V, and also change trans oil and LSD oil. I phoned Motul for the exact model of oil I should go with, but their oil specialist told me I can use the same oil 75w90 in trans and LSD,I think it is kind of wired that their saying is different from what written in manual. Synth oil is alway better than regular, only thing you should do is let your car break-in a bit, then put synth in,at least, many fellows did say that.

Re: synthetic or regular

be careful with the trans fluid, Infiniti had a TSB that clearly stated that trans failures due to non factory oil will void the warranty. It appears that the trans will only work properly with the OEM fluid and that other fuilds will cause failure.

Re: synthetic or regular

Is it true? Certainly,I do not want to screw up anything on my car,but bunch of guys are running with 75W90 full synth in Trans. Anyone can verify this?

Re: synthetic or regular

I think it's just the Auto Tranny that requires Nissan only fluid. Check in your Owner's Manual to be sure.
