5AT Shifter vibration at certain speeds..

Hi guys,

I own a 06 Coupe with 54,000kms (34,000miles)

For quite some time, I've been experiencing this vibration (shaking/shrudder, not just a small vibration) while i'm on the highway going from 105km/h to 110km/h~ I know that the shifter **** is connected to the engine somehow (not sure) and that this is normal for 6MT, but i'm on a 5AT.

I've done my reading and people were getting shrudders at lower speeds, 40mph or 60km/h. I don't get it at all, shifts smoothly when at 60km/h..

Last night while driving home on the highway, I could almost replicate the vibration (most of the time, sometimes it wouldn't vibrate), dropping from 115km/h to 100km/h and slowly steadily feeding gas on the gas pedal go to 110km/h and it'd vibrate as if my engine's struggling or something...

I believe I felt it once before when I as going 80km/h.. so I'm thinking it has something to do with the RPM not the speed... correct me anyone?

I'm not sure what my next steps should be...

I was thinking a tune-up (spark plugs, TB cleaning, etc) and new tires (my tires are pretty worn out.. im running stock 06 tires with 34,000miles on it, and there's quite some feathering on the insides of the tires) and balance/alignment to go with the new tires...

I've also heard people changing their valve body (control valve assembly)... is this recommended?

Ok Check two different things When you are going at the speed that you get the vibration see if when you go faster if will go away or get worse if it goes away and when you slowly come back down in speed will it come back?

If so see if it makes a difference in Manual mode 4 or 5 at the same speed as well. If it makes no difference then it would not be your trany or motor as you are spinning them at different rpms.

Next see if when you are at vibration speed as soon as you let up or speed up does it go away and it it always at the same speed if so I would tend to think it is a balancing with either your drive shaft or the wheels you could just rotate your tires but it is a coupe.

You should also check by going at speed where the vibration occurs Check the rpms and put the tranny is neutral and bring up the rpms to the see if the vibration only happens as a given rpm. or is a mph. vibration.

I would tend to go with the drive line ( u joints/drive shaft ) or tire balance if you find it is only at certain speed as well as it just might be time for a tune up if it is rpm related as both of these are going to be the most common and least expensive.

Good luck

I travel at 110km/h, in Drive mode, gear 5, and I step on it lightly to go to 125km/h, it shrudders and struggles, until I get past 125km/h and it stops. Going down from 125km/h to 110km/h does not make my car vibrate/shrudder. It only happens when I'm accelerating. If I go faster (meaning I step on it hard from 110km/h to 130km/h), I don't feel it.

No vibrations experienced in manual mode. I've tried it. Manual shifts fine.

As soon as I let go of the pedal, it doesn't vibrate. It only vibrates when it's accelerating. Regarding same speed, I usually get it at 110km/h, but yesterday I experienced it while going at 60km/h (40mph). I could not replicate it after that one time. It was also a shrudder, more than a simple vibration.

The drive-shaft/wheels point is something I will definately check out. I can't rotate my tires, but I need new tires soon. I have 55,000kms on it. Running on the michelin pilot sport that came with the car in 2006.

I will do the neutral rev today and will let you know.

I'm beginning to think the same. I will let you guys know after I changed my tires and balance my wheel. I hope it's not the drive-shaft since it's pretty expensive to change it. But, discussion is good!

Thanks guys!

Keep em comin!

I have '04 coupe and everything you described above happens exactly the same to me too.

Did it today, nothing. I guess it only happens when there's load on the engine/transmission..

I'm about to get new tires and balancing and see if it'll go away..

Did you bring it to the dealership? Also, I've read about the transmission valve... if you look at my first post, I mentioned the valve body (control valve assembly). Not sure if the transmission shudder valve and the valve body is the same thing or related parts.. thanks for updating us! Keep us posted

I hope it's nothing serious where we'd have to rebuild our tranny or motor...

Yes stealership, sorry yea that is what the tech said (control valve assembly), but that is what he thinks it might be hes not 100% on that he said. But im pretty sure this is what is causing the problem.

Problem fixed, my car runs so good now!!
The problem was the Control Valve Assembly which is covered under powertrain warranty.
Again my problem was not at 40mph it was around 65-80mph so i had to drive the car and show the tech the problem!
