Is there a negative to switching to a Z tube?

Is there a negative to switching to a Z tube?
I wonder because in the case of a CAI, you have to worry about driving through water and getting water sucked up in your filter (hydrolocking the engine) So is there any technical/real negative to swapping in a z tube, and if so, what do you have to be more aware about?

Yes you can use the stock airbox. I actually think that it is best to use the stock air box with a K&N drop in and not worry about CAIs. The MAF sensor is landed before the Z tube, so no worries there either.

There is definitely a REAL NEGATIVE to switching to the Z tube....I can't keep my damn foot off the pedal and my gas mileage is suffering for it. Seriously though, to me, the differences are most notable on the highway with quicker throttle response. A great, cheap and easy mod...

There is an aspect of this install that seems to have been omitted. The installation of this piece will sacrifice low end hp for the sake of high end hp. Not by much, but it is definitely something to take into consideration.
I want the bulk of my hp where I would be driving the majority of the time and this is why I have not done this modification.

I'm not sure how true that statement of "sacrificing low end HP for high end HP" is... but changing it out will not significantly change anything except for the sound... the performance gains will be small and you probably won't feel it but you'll hear it! hehe

Don't forget that the Z-tube has been known to rub against the A/C lines. Be careful, or it will breach your air tubes.

Yeah, I have no issues with the Ztube and A/C line. I have
a bunch of room between the intake and the A/C line.
The Stillen HF/AB coupled to the Ztube leaves lots of room.

I think the only problems (more than 1) have been with the injen intake rubbing against the ac lines.
