in car pc monitoring of OBD
in car pc monitoring of OBD
I have a car-pc going in this holiday season. I would like to be able to monitor car's performance characteristics (real time and logged), Anyone know of a vendor for the necessary equipment and pc software that's specific for the G35 (or at least for Nissan/Infiniti codes)?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: in car pc monitoring of OBD
Thanks for the links guys.
I still have not found one that has extended codes for Nissan specifically. What I would like particularly is the Air-Fuel ratio. As far as I can tell, that is not one of the "generic" parameters. With that bit of data in concert with the generic parameters, I would think that we would have a good handle on how mods (including reset ECU etc) have on the car's performance.
I will post here if I find anything, others please do the same.
Thanks again!

Re: in car pc monitoring of OBD
The things like AutoTap or anything else for nissans, to my knowledge, don't offer anything above and beyond additional manufacturer specific trouble codes for nissans. i.e. they will give you a description for a manufacturer specific trouble code, where others would only give you the trouble code. I heard this is because of the consult scan tool which is proprietary and doesn't work the same as extended OBD II stuff. If you want to get any of the functionality of the consult, I don't think you'll be able to do it using OBD II extended codes. You would have have a consult device or get something that hacked the consult protocol like conZult, but this software is car specific (http://www.ooparts-international.com/id8.htm).
For just the standard stuff, I wrote my own software to communicate through OBD II http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/show...2&page=1&pp=15 that I use for graphing real time data and logging.

Its still lacking some pictures though which I should have up this week once the weather gets better and I can take some.
I should also be releasing my carputer software sometime early 2005 that will include OBD II monitoring that uses the plugin and will do graphing of the parameters using Direct3D along with the other carputer stuff GPS, mp3, video, XM, etc. So if you do put a carputer in make sure you get one that has 3D capabilities

Thanks - seems straightforward - similar to Double DIN installation. Not sure why you need to put the white plastic housing back onto the back of the AC controller, but I will wait for the final version with all the pics. I never knew the Xenarc screens came with a remote control. All-in-all pretty slick! Can't wait to get all this together in my G!
Re: in car pc monitoring of OBD
The cutout in the white plastic piece actually acts as supoort for the front of the circuit board. I never really gave it much thought, but now that you mention it you could probably leave it off altogether and just use some foam tape in the front to prop up the circuit board if you don't want to cut anything.
