i've noticed better mpg with mobile 1

Just thought I'd let ya'll know that I made the switch to mobile 1 last friday at 1160 miles and have noticed gas mileage go from 18.1 to 19.2 - 19.5 (mostly 19.5)...

also it might just be placebo effect, but I've noticed slightly smoother responses, but no noticeable difference in performance.

anyhow, I figure that I can get roughly 1 full tank worth of gas between oil changes when using synthetic over mineral based which would more than pay for the cost of the more expensive synthetic, plus I get the added benefit of better oil in my engine.

Wow, almost 8% increase by switching to Mobil. Maybe you're taking it a little easier? Also the engine is breaking in more now with almost 1200 miles. Power diff over mineral oils is minimal maybe a few h/p but every little bit helps. I like the long term benefits of synthetic. IMO it's a good investment.

i agree that using synthetic is best but i highly doubt that is what increased your mileage. I would atribute it to your driving style differences and the engine break in.

If you guys want really good oil get AMSOIL, its kinda overkill for your street car but its by far the best stuff out there, for those of you who are perfectionists. (like me)

AMSOil is good, and claims 25k or 35k mileage intervals depending on which product you go with, but they still want you to change it out at least once a year. For someone who drives 12-15k miles a year, the extended drains don't even out the extra cost of the oil; it's cheaper to put in dino every 3k miles at this rate.

I'm at about 3500 miles, and I haven't changed the original oil yet. My first two tanks were at about 14-15mpg, then one at 16, then a couple at 17. Those tanks were all under the initial 1200 miles where I was driving like a granny. I think you're seeing the engine break in, now that I think about it, more than you're seeing a difference in oil.
