Re: engine mods

to be safe of all issues, without voiding your warranty, nissan does not have any problem with what you do after the cats. anything before that, is open to interpretation (litigation). intakes, plenums, pulleys, you name it, depending on your dealer, they start whining.

Ok, lets try and clear this up...Anything you do to a car that is NOT Nissan/Infiniti parts can VOID a warranty. Now to try and clarify that further.....The warranty is a cover almost all warranty. If you change your headers and your blinkers don't work, your blinkers are still covered. Now if you turbo your car and you blow the motor, they will not cover the engine in most cases. I say most cases because sometimes someone knows someone who can get them to hook them up. Warranties are meant to cover factory parts, and if an aftermarket part causes the factory parts to fail then it will not be covered.

I think if i had to do it over again from scratch, I'd just do a K&N panel filter with a Z-tube (rather than the CAI), GroundingGear (don't waste your time with the others like I did, and a Mototdyne Plenum Spacer (instead of a full Plenum). I'm not convinced that you'll feel much difference with the intake, and most exhaust mods are mainly or sound, though replacing that big mid-pipe section (if you have the sedan) with the coupe mid pipe makes sense. The local muffler shop actually told me that the G35 cats are a high flow design already, though maybe not as good as an aftermarket set.

The mods that made the biggest difference to me were the Kinetix plenum, and Gord's GroudningGear! You can definitely feel both! My dealer didn't have a problem with the wires, but he wasn't sure about the plenum, and said the spacer would be safer.

I'm trying to talk my collegue with the 350Z to try out a spacer. He has the GroundingGear, and loves it (though he thought he wouldn't at first), and is really conservative on mods. He says that the car is running great now, and is afraid that i he adds anything else, he'll screw up that smoothness and reliability.

I think many have found that they may lose power, especially at the low to medium end with the CAIs. I certainly found this with my Pop-Charger, and I've heard the same about the Nismo and Injen CAIs I believe. Many have changed back to the stock boxes.

I've heard better things about the Stillen box as an aftermarket alternative.
