Heating problem!

For some reason, my heater stoped working properly today. Usually, I don't need to turn it above 80 to get it SCREAMING hot inside my 04 coupe, but today, 80 just blew cool air. 90 was pretty warm, but what gives????

I recently put a new stereo in my car, but I kept the factory head unit. Is it possible something got loose behind the face plate or maybe blew a fuse?

Re: Heating problem!

sounds like the ac controller wiring may not be reconnected appropriately? was it ever disconnected when the new stereo was put in?

Re: Heating problem!

odd problem... where's the new headunit if you kept the orig?

try testing ALL of the buttons when you get a chance.. ie, try temp up/down, ac, rear defrost, etc. Doesn't hurt to see if something isn't communicating correctly.

Re: Heating problem!

Funny thing about the G35 is that he heater/AC is combined
with the head unit. I bet your install has somehow messed
this up.

Re: Heating problem!

Got it figured out. I went into the diagonstics screen on the A/C. I reset the whole system and recalibrated the internal thermostat. Works like a champ.

Re: Heating problem!

I don't have this problem, but it'd be nice to know just in case.

How do you do diagnostics with the A/C unit?

Thanks

Re: Heating problem!

Turn your key on
Turn the ac off
Turn car off
Turn car back on and QUICKLY hold down the AC off button

You'll see the diagnostics mode come on. You'll have to kinda explore this, but to simply adjust the temp output +\- 6deg:
Hit the temp up button till you see 51 or 52 (it's the last option).
Hit the front window defogger button
Hit the fan up button
Then adjust the temp output +\-

There's lots of things you can do in this mode, but I'd have to spend some trial and error time unless someone knows for sure what everything does. I managed to reset the system settings, but that was merely an accident.

Re: Heating problem!

That's pretty cool! I'm going to have to try it sometime.

Maybe you can find the secret sequence to completely disable the VDC, from your "source".

I know that M-B has one.

Re: Heating problem!

The specific way to "trim" the interior temp setting is as follows:

Turn key to on (or start car)
Within 5 seconds hold down OFF button until screen changes
Keep tapping TEMP up until "51" shows.
Touch DEFROST then FAN up.
"61" shows briefly, then "0" or whatever trim setting is already in there.
Now, by hitting TEMP up or down you can trim the interior temp by 6 degrees plus or minus. Hit AUTO/ECON to exit.
For example, if you want the interior temp to be 3 degrees cooler for a given setting, tap TEMP down until "-3" shows.
There are other diagnostics that can be performed using this method--but this is the only trim setting (otherwise known as recalibration).

Re: Heating problem!

This is good information. Maybe it should go in the DIY section?
