Cold Starts= idles at low rpm?
Hey guys, I'am trying to find out if this is normal operation for my car. Here in Canada, the temperture is average -15 degrees with snow and ice and wind. Everytime I start up my 2004 coupe in the morning, the rpms starts idling at a steady level at 700 rpms then slowly/smoothly climbs up to around 900-1000 rpms after a few minutes . Then i let my car idle there for about 5 minutes to let me temperture needle reach normal levels, and start driving, everything else normal after that, idle is fine , driving is fine.
This only happens when i let my car sit in the cold for long periods of time , like overnight. But lets say if I let it sit for only 2-4 hours, it starts up fine with normal idle at 600rpm. I guess it only happens when the engine if solid cold. My question is, when you start your car in the morning in the cold, what rpm should it idle at, at first?
