Why Fram Oil Filters Suck

I know that this topic has been mentioned already, but I had some free time today. Bought 5 qts. of GC and a Fram filter for $27.99 at Autozone.

Yeah, my cutting skills aren't the best, but it was all done with a hammer.

Oh, btw, GC FTMFW!

I've read that the tough guard wasn't too bad. The normal orange fram are the worst.

Where do you get your oil at? It's actually Castrol Syntec 0W-30 European formula. Make sure it says Made in Germany on the back of the bottle. Only Autozone carries GC.

In my opinion, all of the Fram oil filters suck. The tough guard I broke open today looks like any other Fram.

Only Autozone carries GC. It's Castrol Syntec 0W-30 European formula. Make sure that it says 'Made in Germany' on the back of the bottle. It is the only Castrol from Germany, hence the nickname GC.

If you can't find GC then go for Pennzoil Platinum or Ultra... according to BITOG (BobIsTheOilGuy) forums.

Great oil filters: M1, Wix, K&N, Amsoil

But for a "good" oil filter that's much cheaper: Bosch... when available.

Bosch is not bad for the price. At least it has metal endcaps. It's only a couple dollars more for a Wix filter. Pennzoil Platinum and Ultra may be Group III hydrocracked oils, but they have good UOAs that seem to be better than Mobil 1. I would recommend the PP or PU if GC isn't available.

I wish I could walk into a store and buy AMSOIL synthetic off the shelf rather than ordering it. I can guarantee if it was widely available they'd quadrupole their sales. I'll stick with my K&N HP 1010 oil filters for my coupe!

I can get Amsoil locally. It's REALLY expensive to buy it that way too.
