If there was to be a crack in the mass air meter tube where it connects to my intake box, would it cause a loud mettalic sounding growl coming from either the exhuast or somewhere under the hood. There is like a 2 mm opening that you can see between the mass air tube and the intake box on the one side becuase its cracked where one of the screws goes in so its not flush against the box. I miss tightened my bolts into my stillen cold air box... now i get a vicious little growl, thats def not suposed to happen on startup until it warms up. I accidently started the car without the mass air connected and it started than, but thats also the first time after startup with that crack, it threw a cel too. My battery is dissconnected right now hopefully the light and the sound goes away tomorow, for now i sleep on it... if anyone has any thoughts on this let me know . The noise is like no noise ive heard before its loud and intrusive and noticeably doesnt belong.... :-<

The pedal computer reset definitly will clear the CES light,
I also started mine without the MAS connected, no worries
there. But if your tube containing the MAS is cracked, replace
it! It cannot be good. I bet the part is less than $100. LOL
probably much less than that. JK

I don't think it should make a rattle like that. Maybe your box is rattling or something near that. A crack hose technically shouldn't do it but just cause more of a hissing sound. Check to see if any other bolts are loose as well.

its not a rattle, it almost sounds like a crack head blowing into a trumpet for 2 seconds...... lol only thing i can think of

That crack is going to let in a lot of unfiltered air, so until you get it replaced, don't drive through any dusty areas. The battery disconnect won't reset the MIL, so you'll have to do the pedal dance method to clear the code.
