Loud tapping sound when the car is cold
Hi Guys,
I've done some searching through the forums and have found some people with similar problems, but not quite the same. Any thoughts/ideas/suggestions would be welcome.
I've got a 2004 G35X Automatic that has right at 50K miles on it. It's developed a tapping sound on a cold startup that only seems to last for 15-30 seconds. It's audible from inside and outside the car and appears to be coming from the passenger side of the engine bay. It seems to happen at 1150-1250 RPMs while in Park or 750-850 RPMs while in gear. Any higher or lower and the noise goes away completely. Once the car is warmed up the noise is no longer present even when holding the RPMs in the suspect range.
It didn't always have this noise which is why it bothers me. I only use Mobile 1 5w-30 and K&N/Mobile 1 oil filters. The oil is changed regularly as well. The car drives fine, has no weird smells, no warning lights, or any signs of fluid leakage. It does burn a small amount of oil, but not near as much as those with a true consumption problem.
