We will NEVER have a final word until we either:

1. See a consistent pattern of VQ35 engine failures that are clearly the result of lightened crank pulley on both the MT AND AT cars.

or

2. See a consistent pattern of VQ35 engines with the aftermarket pulleys reaching 200K miles of life without crank failures.

All the theories and speculations won't give you the final word if reality does not support it. The analogy I think of is the discovery of side effects in medications many years after FDA approval, even if in theory, those medications should not have certain side effects.

Stay tuned...

You will like it. I've had mine on my ride for over 30,000 miles with no problems. I'll post my pulley dyno if you like to see the difference I gained 7-10hp. I had mine installed by my infinti dealer with no problems and they were amazed how much lighter the pulley was compared to stock.

Please do post the dyno. I hope this was on the same dyno machine for the before and after tests and with no other changes to the car.

Yes...the before and after pulls were done on the same dyno by the same tech a couple of days apart. I posted these before and some people called BS, but these are the #'s that came out I'm happy with the mod. The infinti techs noticed a difference after they installed it when they took it for a test drive. These are the before pulls the jump in TQ at 2000rpm is from my TQ converter on both before and after pulls.

These are the after pulls. Remember the jump in TQ around 2000 due to my TQ converter and no it is not aftermarket....yet.

I've been thinking about this mod for a while. Are there any real differences between getting just the crank pulley or the whole set? Seems like everyone is just getting the crank. Is spending the extra money on the set just a waste?

other pulley's are just for looks. crank is the only one to swap for performance.

The crank pulley uses 2 belts you should have new belts included with your pulley. I still have my stock belts with my stock pulley. The stereo upgrade doesn't run off of your crank just make sure your battery and alt can handle the extra juice needed for your amp.

you should be fine. i know someone who is running a in dash dvd player 2 headrest monitors, a 500w system w/ 2 10s and components a carputer....all and has the stock battery and the crank pulley and runs w/ lights/AC w/o a problem and has no probs in winter either.

DSskyline, please excuse my ignorance, what do you mean when you say that the jump in torque is due to your stock torque converter?

I am looking at pulleys as a way of improving torque on the 05 6mt which has less torque and more hp. Your torque gain seems really impressive. How much of a gain can I realistically expect?

Thank you in advance.

Is the Unorthodox crank pulley for the VQ35 just lightened, or lightened and underdrive? Purely lightened crank pullies of the stock diameter are a complete joke and a waste of money. Intuitively this seems obvious, but it's been backed up with theory for those that still have faith: http://www.stanford.edu/~mpg/lighten...omponents.html

From a fatigue mechanics and peak stress standpoint, significantly lightening the mass directly bolted to the crankshaft is going to impact resonances and harmonic balance issues in the rotating assembly, and surely negatively assuming Nissan did even limited simulatings during the design process. I personally would NEVER touch a lightened underdrive pulley given the small gains compared to the possible negatives. As far as just purely lightened pullies, again that's just a joke.
