crankshaft cracked...
crankshaft cracked...
after having a full bottom end build and partial top end done, one of the things i had done was the crank being balanced...well 1500 miles later i finally cracked into it and i had (what i thought was a spun bearing)...turns out my crankshaft cracked on one of the counter weights. Am i wrong in thinking this is the machinists fault? considering i had the crank checked for cracks, micropolished and race balanced?
Was it a reputable company like Falicon? If they know what they are doing it is more likely that it was defective or just overstressed. When you have parts modified for 'racing' there is rarely any warranty, even if it is their fault. That crank may have run for millions of miles in a stock motor, or they may have taken away a little too much meat.
I don't have much experience with built VQ's, but I know other motors that eat cranks pretty regularly when pushed too far beyond stock power levels.
