Okay my car is cranking strong but isn't starting. I've been doing some research and have been wondering if it's the infamous cam and/or crank sensors. BUT I don't have any codes being thrown though.

However lately I've had issues where the car wouldn't start until a couple after a couple of tries. The car would also have some issues with drivability and has died a couple of times in the past while driving. I would then pop start it. At times the idle would be a little rough too.

The car is getting fuel. I can hear the pumps prime. I'm pretty sure it isnt the security system because the security light is off when I try and start it. It has a new battery. I also hear the throttle body opening and closing so I think it's good. I also changed the plugs recently but I'll check them and also check for spark.

So any theories or troubleshooting ideas? Thanks in advance guys.

I should mention my car has a built block and twins. It also has an HKS Fcon.

 

is your check engine light on?

 

Nope no codes man.

 

crankshaft and camshaft sensors usually set off check engine.

 

I literally have no codes unfortunately. If I pull them, I was hoping someone can give me the values for resistance if I checked them with a multimeter. I hear the service manual has them.

 

Any other suggestions anyone?

 

Alternator? Those sensors would throw a code

 

Well here's the thing guys. I don't know if my car is capable of throwing codes. I know the car has the GTM flash and the Fcon controls everything. A good example is that the 02 sensors and a bunch of other systems don't even show up anymore if I try and go through inspection. And I have no codes or CELs.

I would like to test the sensors with a multimeter but was hoping someone has the values for the resistances.

 

ahh i see, you should buy those cheap cam sensors from auto zone and see what happens...probably what it is unless its an o2 sensor

 

Its almost surely your cam position sensors or crank Ps. I would replace both cam sensors. They are fairly cheap ajd easy. Alternator wont cause this and a car can still run with all bad o2 sensors but it will run like **** in a limp mode.

 

in that case i would start with the crankshaft sensor. They go for about $30

Yep that's normal.

Non-start issues are often from lack of communication from ECU to the Key.

Sensors going bad often exhibit symptoms before going out.
