hey everyone looks like i have a very bad oil leak. As far as i know there are no engine mods. its a 03 6sp has 64k miles on it. The is on the driver side.

The car sat in the same spot at my house for about 4 days. Then i decided to change the oil. When i took off the shield there was a decent amount of oil there about 2 tbl spoons. The thing is idk how long it has been there for since i didnt drive the car much nor did the previous own since he was selling it and just left it near his house.

There was a majority of oil near this spot, This is after i cleaned it.

Ok updated. Last night i whiped down the bottom of the car where all the oil was and today when i cheaked there was no oil spots on the ground and i also looked under the car where the oil was, and it dosent seem to have any running oil.

So i took out the spark plug coils and indead there was oil in them. There was oil in only 2 and 6, Cylinder 2 had a decent amount of oil.









This is cylinder 2. (Keep in mind this is 5 days of sitting in the same place. Can there e a chance that it overflowed more while driving?

I didnt check the passenger side because it was all dry and there waas no leaks like i saw on the driverside.

Now the real question is, how bad can this get. Like most people i really dont have the money to get this fixed at the moment. I'm assuming my best options is to keep a eye on my oil. And refill when i have to. Does that seem correct?

Looks like the driver side valve cover gasket is leaking. Very common problem. The dealer will rape you if you go there. I just changed them out myself recently and the gaskets only cost about $20 each from the dealership. There are DIY guides on here if you search.

 

oh ok damn, it can leak that bad out of the valve cover gasket?

 

Not normally...But I don't see where else it could be coming from.

Could also be the oil dipstick. Make sure it's secured in all the way.

Seems like everyone is having to this right about now. I'm getting ready to change mine. Keep in mind though might as well get both done while your in there. If you can swing the price tag. $200ish dollars a valve cover $10-$20 per vc gasket. The o ring gaskets cannot be changed hence the new valve covers. If your not willing to pay those prices. R&Dfactory sells a kit to replace O-ring gaskets.

And i just read what i thought was your signature. Keep an eye on your oil. Clean up the Coil-pack. clean up the spark plug. Don't let the oil get so high in there that it drowns the coil-packs and then you have problems. Keep the coil-packs as dry as possible. Don't drive so hard. I know its not that easy but just keep an eye on the oil, don't drive to hard, and check coil packs every now and then.

 

yeah it seems like theres quiet a few people having this problem.
And each cylinder has thier own vc gasket?

and also is the value cover only available at the dealerships?

 

Sorry late response. No but you have 2 cylinder heads so you'd need 2 valve covers. 2 valve cover gaskets.The O-ring for the spark plugs aren't replaceable since their built into the valve covers behind plastic baffle that can't be removed unless broken off and thats highly not recommended.

There are vendors and other websites that sell the valve covers.i.e Z1motorsports.com Dealers should be last choice unless price of the item shipped is same cost.
