Mobil 1 oil sucks

I made a thread not too long ago regarding what what oil I should use. Decided to go with the mobil 1 5w-30 synthetic as I heard great things about the oil. Which many of you guys recommended. I bought the mobil 1 filter go along with it and did the oil change just after I put 2200 miles on it (just bought the car last month from the dealer. Wanted to start off from there and do my oil changes religiously after 3k. Car has 76k miles) So I started off fresh from there.

After about a weeks worth of driving I noticed a lack of pull in acceleration. Prior to doing the oil change I could feel a strong pull even at the lower RPMS. I don't feel the strong torque anymore I used to get. Don't get me wrong the car does not drive sluggish at all, it just simply does not have the performance it had before I did the oil change.

I have barely put in a few hundred miles on it and I can't wait to do my oil change as I feel I'm not getting the most out of my G. I LOVED the way the car drove before I did the oil change and I believe it was on Pennzoil. So I will most likely give that oil a shot or maybe castrol gtx when my next oil change comes along; and go with an oem filter or K&N.

I know there are people who have been using this oil for years and who swear this is the best oil to use, so I am not suggesting to stop running mobil 1. I am just sharing my opinion on it in comparison to the previous oil I was running.

What are your guys' thoughts? Have any of you encountered this with mobil 1 oil/filter before?

I have used mobil 1 for the whole time I have had my 05 coupe and I have almost had it 7 years now. I love the oil never had any problems with it. A good thing about mobil 1 is they are a huge company thats leads synthetic oil and stand behind there product and come standard in alot of high end cars. Make sure that you use the fully synthetic mobil one and not some of their 5k or 10k oils where is you will not get the same affect. Hope I helped

If you used the correct spec (5W-30) then there will be no discernable difference between oils in the respect you are talking about.

+1 on what you said, in theory.

However, without knowing the history of the car, which was bought "pre-loved", anything is possible.

We would need to know the complete history of the car. Plus, besides the perceived loss of performance, are there any other symptoms? Smoke on startup, burning of oil, etc...

Mobil 1 0w40 is supposed to be great. The other weights, not so much. I've been using Castrol 0w30 since I bought my car but I may try Mobil 1 0w40 next oil change to see how it performs.

But there is no way the oil will make your car feel sluggish...Must be something else going on.

I highly doubt the oil it to blame for your sluggish performance. The only possible reason I would see for this and the oil change having anything to do with it, is if at some point in the car's past, the oil was not changed often enough and developed sludge in parts of the motor. Then you switched to a synthetic oil which being mobil 1 is going to clean the motor and start removing some of that sludge which could change the viscosity of the oil. That is a long shot though. I think you need to look elsewhere and consider it a coincidence to another issue, or possibly all in your head.

That being said, I used to use Mobil 1 religiously in previous cars because its great oil for the price. However when I started looking at used oil analysis reports from vq35de's I decided to switch to castrol edge because the results were always better.

OP, make the switch and see how it feels. but i'm sure your butt dyno would be calibrated to expect great 'gains' from switching out of mobile 1. I'd say take it back to the dealer and tell them what you're feeling and get a diagnostic, there's more to this than the oil. maybe mind over matter? did you switch to mobile 1 thinking it was going to run like a beast?

Made the switch to that same oil recently (from Amsoil, they p1ssed me off) and can tell NO difference. Gotta be something else going on with your car. Is it maybe overfull and the crank is foaming up the oil?

Car drives fine, the dipstick is just under full. I didn't expect doing an oil change with mobil 1 to run any better. I just noticed it doesn't pull like it used to. Thanks for all your help guys, I highly doubt there is anything wrong with my car. Low millage, no smoke, runs smooth; just doesn't pull like it did before I did the mobil oil change. We'll see in how it runs with different oil come time for the oil change. I'll keep you guys posted.

Maybe your battery was disconnected during/around the time of the change?

Another consideration is you've become acclimated to the performance of the G. Not sure what your previous ride was but the G maybe more powerful. This is why some guys running FI keep seeking more power for the thrill of acceleration.
