Smoke on startup

Hey guys,

I've had my '05 G35x since September and I'm in love. Definitely the best vehicle I've ever owned.

I noticed something the other day when I went to move my car from the driveway to the street. When I started it, I gave it a slight press of the gas pedal, and some smoke came out of my exhaust and kinda lingered in the air behind where my car was. The smoke had slight blue tint to it, but wasn't completely blue.

I spoke to a few people about it, and some people are telling me that my motor is on its way out, others have told me that I need to have my "seals" replaced.

I just bought this car and I want to keep it.

Some info if it helps:

2005 Infiniti G35x
172,000kms (roughly 107,000 miles)
Always dealer serviced (Bought it from the dealer with full service records)
Only mods are Stillen Z-Tube and Coupe Midpipe

Any input is greatly appreciated.

What oil are you using? Maybe try switching to another type.

I've gotten my oil changes done at the dealer that I work at. (Oakville Infiniti Nissan)

So whatever they use.

If it smokes only on start up = probably the valve stem seals

If it smokes all the time = probably worn piston rings

You could try a thick W weight oil ie.. 10w 40 vs 5w 40

Could be something as serious as piston rings or valve stem seals. Or could be something as simple as oil buildup in your plenum. Try replacing your PCV valve, then pop the lid off your plenum and wipe it out real good. Be careful not to exceed torque specs when tightening down the plenum.
