I've been mulling over motor swaps as well since I blew my motor, but considering cost/hassle/downtime/power output, its just not worth it. Much better to just build the DE with quality hard parts tailored to your specific setup and stuff it back in. IPP sells built shortblocks for under 3k that can withstand upwards of 600whp. You retain all stock functionallity without having to chase down ghosts in the wiring down the road. The oem DE engine wasn't built for huge power but with the right internals and tuning the sky's the limit. Unless you're one of those guys who just happen to have an RB26 or VK56 chillin in the corner of your shop or something its just not worth the invenstment to swap this motor out. My $0.02.

Just buy a DE and turbo it, instead of wasting funds on an HR that could also have issues and not even get that much MORE power out of it.

Depends. Obviously quality of parts and price of install can vary greatly which will determine total cost. Before I blew my engine I had roughly 10k invested in boost: 7k-Powerlab single turbo kit, 3k-local installer, $500-Uprev chip and dyno tuning(got hooked up for cheap). This doesn't include the cluch/flywheel that I destroyed due to all the new power, or intake plenum and exhaust upgrades I did prior to tuning. Plus your gonna need some guages to keep an eye on all the FI effected systems. Had I been smart and installed a basic built block (rods, pistons, lower comp) at the same time it would have added about 5k to my total build cost. So I guess with proper planning and some hook-ups on parts and labor it is do-able. I would just say expect to spend 17k for a good quality turbo kit and built bottom end installed by pros, then tune, and I would suggest upgrading you're clutch and exhaust and at least a boost and a/f guage. With this setup you will have a pretty reliable car pushing 400-600whp. This is just based on my experience so far. Started my project about 3 years ago and until I blew my engine this February it was fantastic. Saving up for a new motor right now.

Hey guys what do you think about supercharging? My motor is about to blow also. I was just gonna swap it with another vq35de motor. I know turbos are hard on motors. But a supercharger running about 430 to the wheels would i still need to be building my motor? The motor i have now 175k and my tranny has the same. I think it be better to do a motor and tranny swap. Then i can throw on that trans-go shift kit and a vortech supercharger.

It's not so much about how you make the power, it's the power itself that you need to worry about. The stock bottom end was not built to handle much more than 350-400whp. Anything over that will most likely lead to a bent rod in time. There are some ppl who get lucky and make more power without their engine blowing, but I wouldn't roll the dice on such a high mileage motor. I was making 390whp on an engine with 33k and it lasted 2 years before it quit. In your case I would just build the motor before adding boost, otherwise you may end up damaging your block. I'm facing the possibility of not having a useable core to send in for my rebuild. If you're planning to keep your power output below 400whp and not going to race it at all, then maybe you can get by without forged internals.
