My vq35de blew. Can i swap it with the vq35hr motor?

I have an 06m35x. Should i just get another vqde, or if i get a new ecu, can i put the vq35hr motor in there. I know it'll fit in there for sure, but is the main structure identical? Will it mount in fine with the stock mounts and connect to my headers and everything?

I have plenty of room, i think i can buy a used vq35hr that comes with the ecu. Mounting brackets i can buy. I dont see how much more work is needed? They use it with the same 5sp tranny. I really dont want to put in an old de back in there

Call Frank at Hill's Garage in MD. He can explain it for you. When my 04 Coupe's engine died I wanted an HR but he talked me out of it for potential oil consumption issues with used motors as well as the fitment issues.

Your looking at a hr motor, engine harness, standalone and stock ecu to control the car. Honestly you might be better off putting in a de, take to extra cash you'll save and trade it in for a hr

Yes and no, as i mentioned above a comany called zfever already put an HR in a 05 g35 coupe he needed the engine harness, dash harness, HR ECU, motor and tranny. Now im making it sound easier than it is it took them 3 solid days of wiring to convert everything over ive already priced out the swap your looking at about 5500 bucks for parts and labor and thats without the price to actually drop the motor and tranny in. I was going to do it but when i saw how much it cost versus the power youl get its just not worth it im just going to build the block and boost it.

Wiring for something like this is very intensive, most people can't just "figure it out" to make it work

Personally I don't see the point of a motor swap less it's to install something that you couldn't get in the body style. But you maybe able to install a hr, swap the intake and sensors and run it asthou it's a de. Not sure if that's worth the trouble either but
