New Starter Issues

so i noticed for a while that my G was lagging when it came to starting; started with a delayed startup to 3 tries to trying for maybe 30 seconds. I recently changed out the battery so i know it's not that. i figured it was the starter.

i went to pep boys, bought a new starter and did the work yesterday following the instructions someone else had posted (see below link). after swap, it started fine and i tried it again and it lagged a little. now it's back to trying for a while. anyone know what's up? do starters need to be broken in somehow?? THANKS IN ADVANCE!

What do you mean by lagging, is the starter not turning when you turn the key?

Unless it is, it's not the starter, look elsewhere for your problem.

When it lags, i'd turn the key but it just turns off all the lights and air. I would repeat this about 10 times and finally it'd start and run fine. but then i turn off the car and it'd be the same issue.

i do have 65k+ miles on it and i haven't replaced the spark plugs.. i'm doing that work this weekend.

hope everyone's 4th of july is great!

That's either battery or the starter, plugs will not help anything that turns the lights off, i'm assuming you hear a click as well?

Check the battery, if your alternator isn't charging it, then it will be either flat/not charged enough or actually dead/not well anymore, even though it is new.

I just changed the battery ~2 months ago. i hear once click and when i turn it all the way, it turns off all the dash lights (this is normal).

Dashlights off, yes, if it just clicks, then it's usually a dead/flat/uncharged battery. Your starter motor can also be causing a problem.
